“You win with people first. When you surround yourself with unbelievable men of character and relentless recruiters who give great effort and care about the student-athlete and want them to be successful in every single phase of their lives, and tie that together with a great place, you have a chance to build something special.”

I'm in wait and see mode with Collins and Key but on the surface, this is just meh. Ranked 42nd in the state of Alabama and the guy ranked 4 spots ahead of him is committed to Bowling Green. We're ranked high in the overall rankings but our average star rating is tied for 31st, according to rivals, with 15 other teams. Which means we're ranked high only because of the number of commits we have right now, not because of quality. Teams like Nebraska, Auburn, Penn State, Michigan and other big name programs are below us just because they don't have the numbers yet. Once that happens, we will likely plummet (unless we start getting some big fish) since we won't have enough scholarships available to sign a ton of guys.

I'm hoping that Key is the "best OL coach in the country" and he can elevate some of these guys we're getting. We're still on some highly ranked guys but we'll see what happens.

SGA, is it tough going through life with a "glass half empty" outlook?

    This sure is ironic.

His glass isn't half empty, it's bone dry.

This is absolute insanity. I’m neutral on PJ, I’m called a Pollyanna, too positive, nut rider, scum bag etc. I’m pro Collins but would like to wait and see before we build a statue and I’m called negative, half glass empty, miserable person. You guys really need to make up your mind.

Except you didn’t say the same thing when our last two coaches brought in 3 stars with average offer lists. Hypocrisy.

Bottom line is, stars do matter as a whole. Maybe not on a micro level but on a macro level, it does. Of course there are 2 stars that go on to be superstars. But the teams that win year in and year out consistently are the teams that are ranked high in recruiting rankings.
