Both were Tech grads. Grounded to this day it looks like.

Fryman retired as a CDR (O-5) and now flies for Delta. No idea about the other guy.

Guys have been grounded for less, i.e., flat-hatting around an airfield. Breaking a "hard-deck" over a stadium is a "CTM" - a Career Terminating Maneuver. What happened in "Top Gun" - buzzing the tower - is another example of a CTM.

From an ex-"black shoe" (ship driver) turned intel weenie.....

As a black shoe on a carrier for two years, the airedales can be insufferable. I know, I know (and have been told as much) it takes a big ego to ride that catapult into the dark of night. They are courageous, but can also be jerks.

Or as I've been told, the last 20 or so seconds on final for a night landing on a carrier is as close to death as any 20 or 30 something will ever come without actually dieing, ramp strikes excluded of course.

Muchas grandes cojones, even for the female Naval Aviators.

And saying they can also be world class, insufferable jerks is a beeeeeeg understatement. And I wouldn't want them any other way.
