    Collins pushing guys out?

    https://mobile.twitter.com/tracolya/...37257939230726

Interesting comments by this woman, who is obviously someone that is either a family member/friend of a GT player. She says that Collins is forcing guys to either just be students or transfer. We’ve had a couple players put their name in the transfer portal the last couple of days.

This is the kind of stuff we’ve bashed Saban and other coaches of factories for doing. Kind of a sleazy, BS way of doing business but unfortunately, I don’t think we can be elite without doing it.

This is something Gailey and Johnson would’ve never done. Johnson inherited a team that was really good 1-10 but absolute garbage 11-85 and he didn’t push out one guy. Gailey never pushed anyone out because they were “dead weight.”

I’d like to hear other people’s opinion on this. Many on this board hate PJ but he did things the right way, was a straight shooter and didn’t lie to players, did a great job with our teams academic standing and won in the process, just not as consistently as we all wanted. So I ask this....

Are we willing to support a coach that goes into a familys home and recruits them to come to GT for four years and then when he realizes he’s not good enough, forces him out so we can open up a scholarship for another potential stud player?

The reduction is EXPECTED--we had 12 running backs and 16 DBs--a LOT were not going to play.Tell them the truth about not playing. Now how far GC wants to push this is his decision.

That’s not the point. Read the whole post and read what the woman said. The situation is not just telling the truth about where the player stands. The accusation is that Collins is forcing the player to leave by telling them they can either be just a student or transfer. They showed up in the transfer portal but the woman said they are being forced out. Now give us your opinion. This was touted as sleazy business by people on this board when talking about other coaches. Now that we have a coach that’s allegedly doing that, I wonder if anyone’s tune will change on Collins.

Is there any report that Collins pulled or didn't renew their scholarships? You are basing something on twitter with nothing else to back it out. If he told them they wouldn't be playing, that is totally within his right as head coach.

And there’s no “official report” that Saban does this but most people consider it common knowledge and people on here and other boards have called it sleazy activity.

It’s not twitter reporting it. It’s a human being who is a principal in a school system. I don’t think she’d just be throwing this out there. Funny how you guys freak out about a player saying something and me saying what he said wasn’t true and everyone is just so hurt that I would accuse an incoming player of being misinformed. This woman is a friend/family member of a player. Why would she make this up? Let’s think about this for a second....

Collins has talked a lot about “roster management.” What do you think that means? If you looked on the rivals pay site, you’d get some information on what the coaches want and what the current scholarship situation is. Let me do some math for you.

We currently have 87 guys that are scheduled to have scholarships in 2019-2020. We can only have 85. Not only that, we only have 12 seniors next year with 11 current commits in 2020 recruiting class.

So, people who are connected to the program have reported that Collins desperately wants attrition to not only stay under the 85 number but also to have extra scholarships for the 2020 class.

Stop being naive. Collins knows his precious 2020 class is going to plummet from the current top 10 ranking if he doesn’t get the attrition he needs. He knows he’s better off if our 7th WR sand 8th DB leaves, opening up an opportunity for a 2020 recruit that could be a difference maker. Did you hear Collins interview on 680 last week? He said the recruiting infrastructure at GT mirrors what Alabama is doing. You know what Nick Saban does? He processes kids. Gets rid of the weak, opening the door for another 4/5 star. You know, I know it and everyone on this board knows it. Kirby’s going to do the same damn thing. And we probably have to do it too if we want to consistently be weak. Read between the lines.

So back to my original question. Whether you believe it or not, are we ok with our coach doing this?

Who is this woman? And why do her comments have any credibility?

“You win with people first. When you surround yourself with unbelievable men of character and relentless recruiters who give great effort and care about the student-athlete and want them to be successful in every single phase of their lives, and tie that together with a great place, you have a chance to build something special.”

Being honest with a kid, i.e., telling him he is not going to play is a far cry from yanking his scholarship, If a kid wants to continue on scholarship, practice, keep his grades up, but not play, that is his decision. Some guys do it. Most want to play football. Jaylen Johnson is the player specifically in question. The twitter poster has some personal connection to him, and evidently an axe to grind. Many friends and relatives get the big cry when their loved one has their dreams crushed, but it doesn't translate to having the scholarship taken away. There is not one mention--other than your troll-- that scholarships are being canceled. You seemed overjoyed that an anonymous poster on another platform has made an emotional, unsubstantiated accusation. WTF? Do you not understand that it is beneficial to Tech to lose some of our present players in order to recruit and re-tool our roster? What don't you get? Usually there is a dozen transfers when you change coaches. It doesn't at all mean we are running off players. I think you are well aware of the situation and you're such an attention whore that you have to post your "what if" stuff.

Jesus man, relax. Go read everything I said. I also said that we probably can’t be elite without doing this kind of stuff. Get over yourself.

I proposed a question. Jim does it all the time. Why do I get **** for asking a damn question?

You have no idea what the conversation was. But Collins has talked a lot about “roster management.” Do I need to go over that again? People within the program have said Collins is really wanting a lot of attrition. Did I say attrition is a bad thing? I hope about 10-12 others leave.

My damn question was are you people ok with it because I know many of you were not ok with Saban doing this.

Stansbury, Collins, Brent Key, Tashard, Marco Coleman, etc., know Georgia Tech is not pulling any scholarships. Period. But telling a player HE HAS NO PLAYING TIME IN HIS FUTURE lets the player make the choice. Stay at Tech, stay on scholarship, get a degree, have a nice life. But if you want a chance to play football, transfer to another program.

We had plenty of kids bail under PJ for various reasons - I don't see what the BFD here is. No one is forcing the kid to bail on his degree. This sounds like a bunch of sour grapes. I don't remember any PJ fans getting upset when Vad Lee wisely left town for greener pastures nor any of the numerous other players PJ and his system ran out of town.

Much ado about nothing and just more PJ fans throwing shade at Collins.
