Yes, killing a player will generally not be career-enchancing.

Vince Lombardi, George Halas, Bear Bryant and many former great coaches couldn't coach nowadays. Berating and humiliating players was how it was done back then.

That's how my Ga HS HoF coach did it...... and what got Carson, Leachman, and Glanville fired.

I didn't play football but the basketball coach I played for tried to be Vince Lombardi, Jr. He acted like an asshole but no one complained.

His record at Maryland is 10-15. He's not Urban Meyer. He's gone.

And, I would submit that Coach Meyer hasn't had a player die on his watch. Might not be for lack of trying, but it hasn't happened yet. Maryland may wish they had that $50 million exit fee back that they paid to leave the ACC. From what I have read, Maryland is going all mea culpa with regards to the player's death. I am certain they are getting sound legal advice, and perhaps their position is indefensible. Maybe the strategy is to pay the judgement without an admission of negligence on the part of the university. This will be very expensive for Maryland.
