    So what is the problem?

We have had 2 losing seasons in the last 3, What really is the problem? Lots of possibilities-from tougher opponents to bad recruiting to a hard restrictive school etc.I have a thought based on some research.

So, what % rate of attrition would you think is reasonable for players leaving any P5 program before their eligibility is finished? That is leaving for WHATEVER reason-- but at Tech- flunk out, kicked off team/school. tired of fball, tired of PJ and coaches, tired of Tech as school, injury ,dislikes Atl,not enough playing time or chance,, etc etc Here from '10-15 it was over thirty-five percent without a head coach change..These are the guys that were on the original class list but we not on team 5 yrs later.(eligibility over). For '16 it is already 28% with plenty of time to go.Think about it, over one third of the talent leaves and that is from pretty average recruiting rankings to start.

It is even worse than that in deeper analysis. Most of the guys that leave do it after 1-2 yrs here so also all that experience is lost to be replaced by Fr to start process over again. Also, this is with 3 star players ( not 4 star) who need to, develop a bunch .usually before they can contribute at a good level. So they leave just when they can contribute. Now admittedly a bunch of these guys were not high achievers but some were or could be. ex-Marshall, Mills,Jordan Woods, CJ Leggett,,WR-Summers, and this yr Gray and Stickler-.
At best you lose huge amount of depth.

Btw--To answer my own question-- I just chose a yr 2012, to compare attrition with another team.Picked dook since they on same level and didn't change coaches. They lost about twenty-five percent it seemed. I didn't check other yrs but I'll bet its about same.

Why does this happen--lots of reasons but it sure contributes , a lot, to the record.in fact , I submit that loss of Dennis Andrews (aback) out of the blue in '15 was the single biggest reason for the start of the slide.A slide that is still inplace probably.otoh-PJ must be a great field coach to overcome this odd exit /happening.

Is it any worse at Tech than other schools? I know UGA loses a number of recruits each year. Tech may be more impacted because we sign smaller classes.

No 1 poor recruiting, 2 poor defense, 3 extremely poor offense, 4 poor coaching ie lets get rid of every coach and start all over again. Until we do attendance will be poor and Tech will continue to languish in mediocrity.

I've said it before and will say it again: CPJ's biggest impact on the entire program isn't the TO - it's the settling-for-mediocrity effect that has definitely pervaded this program since about 2011 or so.

The first few years of CPJ were filled with optimism and excitement but I think after we completely shat the bed in 2010, people started losing interest and settling for the "It Is What It Is" mentality that CPJ preaches non-stop after losses.

Johnson didn't invent that mediocrity sentiment. Chan had it, and never had any exemplary seasons. At least CPJ has had some good years. I think we are staring at another losing season this fall, and obviously no bowl game. I don't know how to gather this information, but I suspect if you had a list of the programs that have gone 3 of the last four years without a bowl, we would be HORRIFIED to see the company we are now keeping. Eighty or more teams go bowling now, but not us.

Chan did have it....and got fired for it.

CPJ has it and just got an extension after the 2nd losing season/missed-bowl in 3 seasons. We're now 1 of the last 4 vs Puke, who we can't possibly pretend is easier to recruit to than we are.

am tired of it. I think Woody is CPJ's last hope. If he doesn't work out, we'll have to try something different.

And that "something different" will be another defensive coordinator!
