Will Paul Johnson Ever Beat UGA Again?

Kirby Smart has obviously elevated UGA a couple notches. His recruiting is through the roof and he brings the discipline that program has always needed.

Is beating UGA now a pipe dream for Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech? Is it a certain loss every season?

Even when Paul leaves it appears that UGA will be head and shoulders above GT as long as Smart is their head coach.

We've kidded over the years about dropping UGA from the schedule. Is it time to get serious about that or should GT just accept the loss? Thank you, may I have another?

It is possible Tech vs UGA could go the way of Tulane vs LSU. The key will be the next couple of years. It was 38-7 last year and it could have been worse. A couple more scores like that and we will be competing with Georgia State and Georgia Southern for state of Georgia recruits after the other power 5 conferences pick the state clean. That's close to happening now even thought the contract extension was supposed to prevent that. Long term, we may be actually more dependent on Malzahn, Pruitt and Mullen. If they can have some recruiting success, it could put a dent in Smart's recruiting and give us more of a chance when we play UGA.

If we don’t have as our #1 priority beating uga, I would just as soon drop sports.

For all the good he did, Homer Rice really hurt GT by deemphasizing the importance of beating uga. He even allowed our WBB team to stop playing them. Cowardice.

This philosophy has inculcated our AA for decades now. Stupidity.

I anxiously await to see if TStan knows what is best for GT.

If we are good enough to beat uga 50/50 on the football field, the ACC will take care of itself.

it will be a massive upset if a CPJ team beats a Smart team again. Injuries could bring the mutts down a notch and make 'em beatable though - who knows.

Oh they will be tough no doubt about it but yes we can do it ! Maybe not regularly but it will happen.Big thing with the dogs is they found somebody to coach the athletes on defense that were disciplined and therefore handled out offensive keys.I agree with many if we were to drop the pups...........then I drop tech after 60 plus yrs.jWhat is clear is Brainless and his 7-6 go to a nothing bowl and beat georgie on a irregular basis is becoming the norm but............we still lead the league with excuses

50/50?? We are 10-30 over the last forty years. I have always felt that if we could win 33% of the time we'd be doing great. I have predicted CPJ will not have another winning season at Tech. I don't imagine Paul Johnson will beat Georgia in the foreseeable future. You are right, last year's game showed we are not competitive. The recruits see this, and their parents and high school coaches that advise them see this. Their selection of schools is not between Tech or Georgia. It is becoming a choice of "anywhere but Tech". It will take a major upheaval in our program to become competitive with UGA again. The disparity in recruiting will be brutal.

I would seriously doubt if we can beat them.It would take a odd set of circumstances--they lose their QB in game or fumble like Pitt.
