Around 100 Days to Kickoff and there is no Excitement

I have never seen so little interest in Tech football since perhaps the early 80's. Even after a 1-10 in 1994, there was optimism with the return of O'Leary. The TV networks are not excited either. We are becoming the official team of noon football on Saturday. I really think the attendance will be low unless Tech can gets off to a strong start. Clemson and Miami are the only games that will have big crowds and that's because of Miami and Clemson fans. I really think Stansbury underestimated the negative reaction of PJ having his agent text his interest in the UT job. Tech could have a good season if Woody can make a turnaround like Lindsey did in 1984. However, unless we can pass the ball, it's hard to see beating VT, Miami, Clemson, or UGA. UNC was decimated by injuries last year. Louisville will not be easy even without Lamar Jackson. Duke was won 3 of 4 against Tech. That would mean winning 7 of those 8 games and that would be a tall order.

There are a lot of voices on this board and most know a lot about college football, and especially about Georgia Tech football. In my opinion, the lack of optimism and excitement is based on the fact that most of us understand where the program is right now. You would have to be dreaming if you considered that we could finish better than fourth in our division. We have no playmakers coming back on a team that lost six games last year. We have revamped the defense and will be playing with personnel that were recruited for a 4-3 system. Just within our division we will have tough games with all divisional opponents. Every team in our division has us penciled in as a win, even UNC. And yes, Duke has beaten us regularly of late. Our crossover games with Louisville and Clempsen are brutal. OOC there's Georgia and USF on the road. Sorry, just not that exciting.

Their is on the net a grsports talk blog but you cant criticise the coaches or the team so wonder how we are going to improve ? We just dont seem to get it .Does anybody think pj WOULD FIT AT TENN ?He got his raise after having two out of three losing seasons and guys we are not in top 40 in recruiting. How can we win withut players ? oh sure we fool them first yr with the option and then.........teams gete used to it and we are in trouble.I like Woody but to think he is going to trun around a defense by using the 34 is hard to believe.I know I am old but when you see the output every yr and we lose its tuff to take. When teams like Dook rise off the deck and kick our butts we should figure out something...when big time ga high schools dont even run out offense that should tip us off that we need to change but.........we dont and we do a 7-5 every yr ..Todd needed to put his foot down but didnt so here we go in 18 ..course when we are down we are dangerous....jby the way saw on the old board a name from the past .dude who thought foggy was surveiling him .............

When we have good seasons - how much of it is due to tactics / coaching / recruiting / program building?

We gave our average, at best, coach an extension in main part because the parrots told us it is necessary for recruiting purposes.

How has recruiting improved? Who thinks it will?

Who thinks this lazy boy HC will continue to battle Elon, gsu, Coastal Carolina rather than our big boy opponents for recruits? The Hill at GT is thrilled with mediocrity and disdains expectations for excellence.

As thing are now - our recruiting will not be any better in 4 years.

The extension was a fraud upon those who love GT.

There is definitely an air of apprehension around.--- can this ship be righted.?
Even with 8 starters back on Off,the SR QB team CAPT is a big ?.The DEF is even worse.A new DEF but many too young or incapable. Also,,many of which were 4-3 guys plus losing the best DB..
PJ's interest in UT pretty much canceled the positives of a new locker room and athletic ad group.
So far the recruiting has been per normal-- very average.
    the
On another downer note--the bball team loses it best player BY FAR to pros which kills next season for excitement there.Maybe take the fball recruits to V instead of the bball games.?

what's there to be excited about? The home schedule is boring. we're running the same QB-Keeper "Option" offense as last year, with the same guy at QB. The D might be interesting for above-avg-knowledge football fans, curious to see how a 3-4 plays with 4-3 recruits but that's about it.

We've got no proven threat at WR, no proven throwing threat at QB, even our PK is a roll of the dice, D might improve but how much can it?

6-6 again, at best. Like TexShooter said, the extension was a bad idea. Another Hewitt-type move. We're stuck with this mediocrity for awhile, boys.

I'm curious to see what the excuses will be when Puke goes 4 for 5 against us at home.
2017 - "Well at least we went down fighting" - David LFeuer, completely giving up with 2 mins left vs BC
August, 2018 - "Tech plus three versus Tenn right now I would take UT" - David LeFeuer, waving that flag in August
Ramblinwreck93 - "I hate that my dad was a Tech fan and took me to games when I was younger and made me love Georgia Tech football."

The inability of CPJ to string two good seasons together tells me a lot about the lack of foundation for the program. In 2008 and 2009 we won 20 games in two years, but lost two out of the last three in 2009 to the hated mutts and to an Iowa team that completely throttled our offense. We won the ACCCG by the skin of our teeth. It was clear to most of us on this board, that a lot of our success was because of "Chan's players". It got even clearer the next year. Since 2009 we have a couple of good seasons, but never again back to back. And when we have had success, you must be honest and point to winning some games that could have or even SHOULD HAVE gone the other way. When we get some breaks, and win two or three one score games, we can do okay. When we lose the close ones we stay home for the holidays. It just seems to me that the last several years we chalk up a couple of wins against Elon or Alcorn, or South Carolina State, we get a couple of wins in hard fought games against mediocre teams, and then we lose pretty regularly to the several better than average teams that we must play every year. We have not been able built upon the success of a previous year--not even once. That is an indication to me that we are not developing players. Nobody gets better by having more time in the system. In fact, many get worse. Name me one player, on either side of the ball that has improved under this coaching staff. Most of them that I see, even the ones that were pretty damn good when they got here, have not improved. That's how you win 11 games one year and only three the next. No player development, poor recruiting. I have seen no evidence that there has been any attempt to build a competitive program that can challenge for championships each year. Last year at this time we were talking about having four legitimate quality quarterback. That's vanished into thin air, and today we got zero. We make no attempt to recruit for need. Our needs are many, but we have no success getting quality players that would help the team or build depth. This coaching staff seems to be unaware that we have games to play inn 2019, 2020, 2021, and so on. Maybe Paul knows something we don't about the near future, but it seems as if this "no plan" has been the plan for ten years. We won in Tampa in 2009, and were heading for the Orange Bowl. Things looked great. Came out in 2010 like we had never heard of the game of football.

Don't laugh - the first name I thought of was PK Harrison Butker. The only name, actually.

Well with the option some teams have not seen it so we may be little dangerous but maybe we upset a few but yeah its clear the teams we play on a yr to yr basis seem to be better every yr as evident by Va and Pitt and of course Dook while we just seem stagnant.I know age kicks in when I talk about tech football but......Ross and curry were left with nothing and in three yrs we were very competitive and in 90 we won the NC......Chan gave us ton of talent but when they left (JN and JD) and Crockett etc we dipped..What hurt most was the way they took tradition out of the uniforms....the stripes and bull on unis told me that we were going in a new direction and we have.........just not a good direction.Hard to believe a engineering school has no idea of Ole GOLD but we didn't see it until this coming yr..........yeah the general feeling is I can go to Statesboro and watch competitive football for 20 bucks tailgate for hours with my guard buddies and come home in a little over a hour so doubt you will see me in Atlanta at noon watching us...................sorry guys but my fun meter and ga tech are about broken yet nobody seems to want us to do better than 7-5..not talking about fans but directing wrath toward the hill.......Hell time to quit bitching ..later my friends

I realize that the patrons of this board are a distinct minority of overall Tech fans. But it is so obvious that the GTAA has completely lost touch with fans such as yourself. Life-long Tech fans, that are Georgians, but not graduates. You are the fan that should be targeted specifically. And yet they are willing to let you (and maybe thousands of others) opt out. Southern is not the only alternative to Saturdays at Grant Field. Mercer, Kennesaw, Georgia State, Valdosta State. There is no reason not to go to Statesboro, and now there is really no reason to travel to Atlanta to watch us beat up on Bowling Green or be beaten up on by Duke. How can the AD not understand this? And if he does understand this, how can he not act on it?
