I am still confident that Stansbury will take corrective action if Paul Johnson's evaluation is below standards. I don't agree with him, but I think Stansbury truly believes CPJ is the man to right the ship and therefore is giving him an opportunity to do so. I would rather have seen some kind of minimum performance requirement in place, rather than an extension, but it is Stansbury's job to manage as he sees fit. I would hope that Stansbury will act if and when it is more evident that CPJ is not getting it done.
I am very much in agreement with you.

“You win with people first. When you surround yourself with unbelievable men of character and relentless recruiters who give great effort and care about the student-athlete and want them to be successful in every single phase of their lives, and tie that together with a great place, you have a chance to build something special.”

The idea of giving PJ an extension was good IN THEORY.It supposedly promotes recruiting -but what about the 30% leakage from the program every yr of guys leaving school before eligibility is up(for ANY reason). The loss of talent is enormous.A lot of this Johnson is himself and his "program".That stays the same.

You may very be correct. And i may be too negative.

But remember, TStan was hired by peterson, and I would not be the least bit surprised if Peterson & HillNerds could not care any less about GT having high expectations.

I have found Peterson, in various areas of GT life, lacking in moral character.

If TStan turns out to be nothing more than a bump on the log.

There may very well come a day of reckoning where the moats encasing the Tech Tower will have to be hit like Omaha Beach.

The constraints are significantly greater when you have to either keep a coach 'cause you can't afford to fire him. Or you fire him and have to pay him off millions.

I think Giff Smith was the engine behind Chan's recruiting. PJ's recruiting was headed in the right direction until Giff left. Giff knew how to recruit the state of Georgia.

If I was the GT AD, I would pull Paul into a meeting. I'd say to him, "Paul, we have constraints here at Georgia Tech, that is true. Can you win under these constraints? If you can't then let me know right now. 'Cause I don't want to hear you bitching and complaining about the facilities, etc. like you frequently do. If you can't win with what we got, then I need to go in another direction right now and try to find someone who can." Bottom line.

Btw, will Georgia Tech be young again for the 10th straight season? Every season Paul says he has got a young team.

Have you noticed GT basketball and football coaches never leave for another job elsewhere anymore? The GT head football and basketball coaching jobs are the easiest money in America besides welfare, food stamps and unemployment.

GT needs a Trump type personality to come in and drain the swamp. The last thing GT needed was another beltway type like Stansbury. Stansbury looks and acts like a guy who has been working institutional jobs far too long. Guys like Stansbury master the art of working the cocktail parties, stroking the alumni and telling everybody what they want to hear.

GT needs a businessman to come in and run this failing business. Regarding the lack of production and success, the only answer we ever hear anybody at GT say is, "we need more money."

I started Tech about the same time Homer Rice started as AD. Stansbury has it a 100 times better. We were pretty much last in the ACC in every sport and that is when the ACC had 8 teams. Our B-Ball team won 4 games and trailed Baptist 41-12 at the half and that was a home game. By the time I graduated in 1985. Tech has won an ACC title in basketball and was becoming more competitive in baseball and football. On talk shows, UGA fans were acting like Rice was the devil himself. In the first full year with Stansbury as AD, we had one of the worst sports years in recent history. We had a grand total of 1 win over UGA (women's tennis) and no tournament or bowl appearance in basketball, football or baseball.

It would need to start with Danny Hall. Baseball is the biggest underachievement. There is a ton of local talent in baseball yet we are regressing. Look at Dansby Swanson. He's a local kid who goes to Vanderbilt which wasn't known as a baseball powerhouse when he went there. It shows the current recruits don't have a high opinion of Hall. You can't use academics as an excuse. Any kid that is an academic question mark, will sign with an mlb club.
