    Identify our first loss.

My dear old dad (IM '50) took me to a lot of Tech games back in the day, and he always told me, " you can't win them all". That said, the schedule sets up pretty good for us this year---better than in most recent seasons. Week-by-week we could go deep into the year before we got derailed. When will we see our first loss? I'll say Duke on October 11. 5-0, riding high, before we stumble.

Lol talk about a liar. We have one of the worst coaches in the ACC, there's no evidence of why we shouldn't be in a bottom feeding threesome with UVA and Wake, we have terrible players, FCS talent, blah blah blah. Yet you say we'll be 5-0 with wins against at VT and Miami, the most talented team in our division? Liar, scum bag, douche bag, flip flopper, troll. They all fit.

    Va Tech.

If we couldn't beat the Chokies crappy team in ATL last year, I don't see CPJ suddenly outcoaching their DC in Blacksburg with a younger team, no matter how good youth is.

I'm with you, unfortunately by the evening of Sept 20 we will have (most likely) suffered our 1st loss!

I guess this is tongue in cheek but good news is we still for all our fautlts have better football teams than many of those we play.Sometimes its not what you have its what they have........I think we could win five in a row but we still have to play..........Tulane will be better than last year and Southern will be sky high ...we should win but we have to play.

I can't pile on Paul Johnson for this scenario. Every head man since Dodd left has had a habit of pulling one game out of their posterior, and then laying an egg against lesser opposition. I just don't think any of the successors had Dodd's attention to detail of preparation. Also, from many sources, I have heard that Dodd knew his players' capabilities keenly. Probably an unfair comparison, given the restrictions of time with the team that coaches labor under these days. But CPJ does not have a monopoly on throwing a game or two away each year.

We could get a bounce or two. Roof's men might make a timely stop or a game-changing pick. You never know.

No, that was Gailey's MO. We would beat a ranked Auburn, Clemson or Miami and follow it up with a loss to a bad UNC or NC State.

Outside of mtsu and Kansas, we beat the teams were supposed to beat. As I mentioned in another thread, 18-2 in the last four years against Duke, UNC, UVA, Pitt, Syracuse, BC, Wake, NC State and Maryland and 2-18 against Clemson, Miami, VT, UGA and bowl game.
