    A Top 25 finish?

As visions of sugar plums dance in my head, how many wins would it take for Georgia Tech to finish the year in the AP top twenty-five? I think we could do it with 8, but nine would be more certain. We would have to deliver losses to at least two teams that would be competing with us for ranking such as Clempsen, VPI, UNC, or Miami. The round robin nature of how the Coastal Division has played out in recent years certainly helps--if and only if we can take care of our own business. And a win over Georgia would be huge. It is impossible to forecast who on our schedule will be the "best three opponents", but the usual suspects would be Georgia, Clempsen, and Miami. So, with that in mind, could we be Top 25 with losses to just those three? That would give us our usual six weak wins, plus wins over UNC, Duke, and VPI.What if those three ended up being four or five loss teams? And that could happen. 6-2 in the division.

In 2013, number 25 was Washington at 9-4 (these are all AP)
    In 2012, Nebraska at 10-4
    In 2011, Cincy at 10-3
In 2010, NC State at 9-4.

Looks like 9 wins could just slip us into the top 25 possibly.

    Go JACKETS! THWG!

Okay, even tho I was talking about just the first 12 games, put me down for wanting just that--nine wins and a Top 25 finish.

Yeah I think it would take an 8 win regular season plus an impressive bowl victory, at a minimum.

We will have to beat VT, UNC, Duke, Miami and either Clemson or Georgia to crack the top 25. We also need to hammer Wolford, Tulane and Georgia Southern. And, we need to make sure we handle NC State and Pitt. So, it will take a 10 win season to crack the top 25. I'm saying we need to prove we belong in the "big boy's" club.

I'm afraid I have to agree with NY Jacket. Its a beauty contest of sorts and 9 GT wins isn't the same as 9 Top SEC team wins, as we all know here. We need to dominate the little sisters of the blind teams, have convincing wins over our ACC counterarts, and at least be very competitive with UGA if not beat them - and I'm just not feeling that as a possibility for this year. Sorry to be a Debbie downer, but IMHO, this year is going to be mediocre.

    Go JACKETS! THWG!

When you look at how thin this team is and when you consider that there is very little experience at the QB position, this team is a couple injuries and/or fumblitis away from oblivion. A couple bad breaks and this year could be Bill Lewis revisited minus the wins against the patsies.

Do I think this will happen? No. But this team is in a very precarious position. Moreseo than any GT team in the past 15+ years.

I do not disagree, but we may find out a little more about Paul Johnson's coaching ability. I do think, and I thought this even before Vad left, we have the real potential to go something like 4 and 8 or even 3 and 9. I have no reason to feel CPJ has lost the locker room like Lewis did, but if the team loses faith in the mission, we don't have the raw athletic talent to overcome that even against weaker teams. And frankly, after Wofford and Southern, every other team is a potential loss if we spit the bit. OTOH, we have all seen teams catch lightning in a jar and do great things. In this case, great things would be win 8 or 9 with a quality win or two along the way. A couple of years ago we were 2-4 and CPJ guided us back from the brink of what could have been a career ending season. (Damn the bad luck). That will be one of the key things I will be looking at this fall. Can he right the ship, handle adversity, lead the team, etc. Should be real interesting, and maybe rewarding at the same time.

I agree, when you lose the guys its over period.Tech problems are basicallly the same year to year.We cant make mistakes since we dont have the great ones to overcome them like say a LSU or BAMA or yes puppies. We normally dont recruit well and so far we have not had a true option qb so the first four games should define our year. The key is mistakes. If we win the first three ,and we should,we need to be mistake free and set tone for the big uns down the road.I have no real opinion on JT other than he is quick and good athlete yet he is light and in this offense somebody is going to hit the qb most of the time..Hey he may be able to light a fire on offense and we may even get some completed passes this year and Roof may have a knockdown defense.I think the key tothe year is NC and NCS.They have horses but have not jelled yet and if they do ........then maybe six and six for us.Tech fans always optimistic since who but a minority would ever thoughwe would win nc in 90. We knew we would be good but didnt know how good we would be.This can be a good year.

GUYS SOME ARE SAYING WE ARE GOING TO WEAR DODD UNIS THIS YEAR..............THE OLD MANS DREAMS ARE COMING TRUE ! hwga

YEAH when you played a seven and three and SEC opponents could put you in top 25.Now who knows but top 25 and playing good fundamental football would be nice to see.......along with Dodd jerseys and pants.
