Offensive Line Report, Part 2: Wheres the Beef? At GT of course!

Look up "Big Ugly" in the dictionay and theres a picture of Gary Brown there! Sure, he's below 300 lbs, but I'm looking forward to seeing him push some dudes around.

"The most challenging aspect, Brown said, was the running, but he found that it trimmed fat weight. Brown is 6-foot-3, 295 pounds."

Brown adds bulk to Tech offensive line | Georgia Tech Sports blog

A much bigger line this year than in year's past. We'll see if it makes a difference. Left tackle Chris Griffin is 6'6 294 lbs. I really like him. Had several offers from big time programs. LG Trey Braun is 6'5 295 lbs. Center Freddie Burden is 6'3 292 lbs. RG Shaq Mason 6'1 311 lbs. and one of the best in the country. Bryan Chamberlain is 6'4 286 lbs.

Good news and bad news on the O line. Good news is, there is some talent there and a lot more "beef" than we've had in the past. Bad news is, once again we have a young, talented OL go out with a career ending injury, Chase Roberts, just like Morgan Bailey, who was probably our most talented guy. We'll see what happens.

never had a problem size wise on ol mainly due to the height of our guys.....wish we could send them to the dl since wd are not too large there

That would be nice since PJ introduced the option the refs have certainly been looking for any infraction with our OL.Funny though when I played in the sixties and coached the cut block was legal.Great technique when two little guys blocked a big un.

True but given Cobby's stats, it looks like we've got some hosses on the OL this year. No need for them to be rolling around, diving at people's knees with those heights and weights!

That's what I was thinking too. Probably a little bit more difficult for 300 lbs. dudes to get to the next level and cut LB's. I was watching some of our games from last year the other day and when we drive block, we do a pretty good job. We do it more than people think.
