    Switzer on Petrino and Recruiting

Was listening to Barry Switzer, Arkansas alum, discussing if he thought Bret Bielema was the right fit for the Razorbacks. He said the program was down, without many good players. He declared that players are a coach's No.1 recruiters. He said that during Petrino's time there the players hated him and worked against him in recruiting. Consequently, when Bielema came in there was/is very little talent. He was highly supportive of the new coach, and was preaching patience until he gets more recruits in. It was interesting to me the hear that players would actually scare recruits off from their own school. Switzer was big on the philosophy of "take care of your players, and they will take care of you." He might have taken that idea to an art form when he was at OU.

Barry took care of the hookers who took care of his players.

And there was a guy named Donnan who was part of that staff that had the recruiting "houses" down in Houston.

I assume everyone knows about the sudden recruiting trip Switzer sent his DC on one time? And the DC is driving down the road and it dawns on him, "why the heck is he sending Me out on the road to recruit this kid?"

Umm, switzer's DC (initials LL, who ironically STILL coached with him in Dallas) was sent suddenly on the road to recruit. He turned around and found a certain HC at the DC's house with his wife.

More sleeze in that program than any in history. SMU no where near approached it.

Oh, yeah, I actually did know that. Somehow I thought we were still talking about Diamond Jim Donnan. Man I miss him. We may never live to see three in a row again.
