Any chance we are really good?

I am not being silly. In 1988 we were 3-8. The following year we started 0-3 stretching a string of one win in 8 tries across to seasons. But then we managed win 7 of 8 to end the season at 7-4. In the summer of 1990 I attended a Tampa Tech club meeting with cocktails beforehand. In a small circle of wannabees, we asked Coach Ross about the season at hand. He was optimistic, but of course no on said anything about undefeated anything. Even back then we spoke of the unfairness of the ACC rep as an inferior league. The point is 1990 was unpredicted, unexpected, unforecast by any and all of the great football minds of the time. No one even hinted at "watch out for Georgia Tech having a break out season." Nothing about if things go well , or the ball bouces right, or even the schedule sets up for the Yellow Jackets. It was completely out of the blue, wasn't it?

Is there any chance at all that we do really well this fall?

Well Uke .........maybe but doubt it.I do see eight wins if we play welll and maybe we play extra hard and get three more but not a realistic thing.I would love just to see hard nose football and folks doing well with their assignments.Of course the uniform thread will rear up soon but so far I get feeling we are sort of low on players and hope nobody gets hurt or......we may not do so well.

Really good? Don't think we have the horses to be really good. I think we can win 10 with a few breaks. Likely scenario is to win 8 games though.
Of course, it all really depends on 2 things: Justin Thomas and defensive development.

I don't think so - but I guess it also depends on your definition of really good. IMHO, really good means we're vying for a national championship - and I don't think we're any where near that. We might contend for the ACC, but like Confederate said: it all depends on JT's development. As long as the D doesn't regress, I think we'll be okay on that side of the ball despite losing our playmakers. It's going to come down to the offense being able to stay on the field - either by completing more passes or by simply not finding ourselves in 3rd and long so often.

I think it would require JT mastering the CPJ system like nobody we've seen, our WR's suddenly becoming receivers, and a B-Back that can rush for 1200+ yds. I honestly don't see any of these happening.

We may surprise me and be "good" relative to a pretty crappy Coastal, but as far as being a solid football team, nah...just don't have the horses like Confederate said. 10 wins seems like a fantasy at this point but VT and Miami may be just bad enough that we can scoot by and only lose to UGA and Clemson? I doubt it. I think 7-5 would be impressive.

Who is going to be scoring all these TDs?

Who is going to be laying the wood on D?

    Who is John Galt?

True story - after we whipped the Gamecocks in 1990, my mom predicted we'd win the national championship.

2014? 8 wins would be a very nice season. I think we'll be too one-dimensional and easily-stopped on offense against the good teams to be "special" though.

I stick by eight wins. For sure we win the first three and then we seem to have Dook ,Nc andNcs number which puts us to six and then two of last four..........of course many things have to fall in place but you never know do you ?
