Can Ted Roof save the Triple Option?

There are various reports that our defense is going to be improved, especially from the standpoint of creating plays for losses and possibly getting more turnovers. I hear tell that we are more spirited, have a defensive attitude developing that hasn't been present in recent years. Many message board analysts (like me) have suggested for 3 or four years, that a slight uptick in defensive production might be the boost that our less than spectacular offense has needed. A few more stops/ punts. A few more picks or fumble recoveries, all resulting in a few more possessions & better field position for the offense might translate to an additional win or two spread across the entire season. There is no question that 9-3 would be much, much better that another 7-5 season, regardless of which teams we beat. Is it possible, and wouldn't it be something, that Ted Roof's aggressive, G.A.T.A. brand of defense resulted in a better offensive output? A successful defense could cement CPJ position well into the future.

Well Yuke for yrs it seems we have wanted long drives to kill clock to keep our D off the field so if we can generate pass rush and turnovres it will give our O more time with the ball.JT bailed Chan out many times and Roof may have to do same thing with PJ.I still say the option is not our cup of tea with our players on current roster and if defense can help out then ...more power to them.

If our personnel still isn't suited for an option offense, after this many years of specifically recruiting FOR an option offense since that is what he we have been trying to run for several years now - sure makes someone in the GTAA look like a bunch of bozo's.
In the past GT football has often been JUST GOOD ENOUGH TO BREAK YOUR HEART!

I believe we are on the way to getting where we all want to be - Win Championships, and be more competitive with UGa and Bowl Games.

QB's looking up, WR's coming along(?), Welcome CTR, CMP and new AD, We have some good recruiters with a good class coming, Stamps back to ST's, all 3 phases should be better this year than last. We have team speed to match anyone we play.

    What's not to like?

Well you are right as rain.......how many times have we said "''''''w'ait until PJ gets his players'etc and we still struggle.I still am not sold on JT being the guy to lead us mainly due to his size but after years of excuses it is time we looked at our product on the field. We may win eight but the question will be here next year on what to do with PJ.

I don't see how the D is going to be that much better or even as good as last y ear, on paper at least. Wouldn't take too much from the beating it gave the O in the Spring game.

Hard to see how the D will be better losing Attaochu, Young, and Thomas.

12 out of 13. When will this stop?

We get back Golden and Isiah Johnson, both of whom are ball-hawks. Nealy and PJ Davis also look super-solid in the LB dept. DJ White, Chris Milton are other young guys in the secondary who can have a really positive impact.

None of those guys, even Attaochu, were irreplaceably good. They will be missed, but it is not like we don't have as good or better players now playing on an entire defensive team that has another year of Roof under their belts. At times Young was atrocious. Thomas wasn't on the field a lot. I am a glass-half-empty guy and I think the defense should be improved.

They were starters for a reason. Remember that. DE looks really worrisome.

Honestly, I have no idea why Young was the starter. Every time the ball went his way in 2013, he was either beaten or grabbing a jersey. I understand that QBs throw to open receivers (so he would be beaten) but his coverage skills were crap. DJ White will be way better at CB, and Demond Smith at nickel should be good.

I think we're good at SDE, WDE is more suspect.

KeShun Freeman looked beastly (albeit against gold O-line), so there's hope on that front. Coaches said he had a good spring. JHD at DE is strange though, why can't he play SLB with Nealy at WLB in th 4-2-5? Plus there's that JuCo guy (dunno the name) coming in at DE, so hopefully should shake out before toe meets leather.
