    Matt Kuchar, official headcase

Gotta love Matt Kuchar, and I do. But one week after four-putting his way out of Sunday lead at the Masters, he goes out in 30, and gets to 7 under for the round. Hits it stiff at 17 needing a four footer to close things out, but proceeds to three putt his way back down to a tie. Comes up short in the cat box on 18, and jugs from the sand. Ho-hum, game, set, match. Give me my million. Oh yeah, my plaid jacket, too.

Sure like ole Matty but........did he not see his golfing life pass before him when he missed the kick in birdie............glad he won but if he had lost wonder how bad a shock it would have been to his golfing system.

Matt is a great kid and respresentative of the school but if the maddest you can get when you miss-hit an easy one is to say "jeepers, Matt", it doesn't bode well for the high pressure stuff, IMO. I certainly wouldn't want him hanging out with hookers when his wife is at home with the kids but "a little Tiger Woods" wouldn't hurt now and then.

Nope. By my unofficial count, Matty has pocketed $2,360,000 since March 1. That's prize money, honey, not endorsements. He has a beautiful Tech grad wife, a beautiful family. He's never going to be eaten inside by regret or what might have been like Greg Norman or Eldrick. My sense is he is very, very comfortable in his own, filthy rich skin. He is exquisitely marketable and should have a lucrative endorsement career on top of his prodigious winnings. Faldo tried to bait him into the "best golfer without a major" discussion and he would not go there. He's enjoying be Matt Kuchar, a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech.

What in my previous post elicited a "nope" from you?

I'm saying I love Matt. He's a great representative of the school. I just don't think he has it in himself, right now, to handle the pressures of the big stages of the PGA Tour. Tiger obviously has a " **** you" attitude to everyone in his life and that in itself contributed mightily to the TW Empire. I'm sure Matt is quite content in his own skin but I doubt we'll see him taking full advantage of the gifts of hitting a golf ball like he's capable of doing.

Sorry, sometimes I am muddled. I was trying to say "Nope, there is no part of Tiger Woods that Kuchar needs." Just my opinion. While many of us might want to do a Denny's waitress in our SUV in the parking lot 30 minutes after meeting her, I don't think Kooch strives for that.

Kuchar is smart to not get baited into 'best golfer without a major' discussion, since that prestigious title is currently held by Sergio Garcia.

I'd say the 'best w/o major' trophy belongs to Lee Westwood, not Garcia.

But Kooch's problems down the stretch drive me nuts. Remember before the Masters? He had a 4-shot lead going into the final round in San Antonio, then on the 72nd hole in Houston, all he needed to seal the win was a par. Didn't win either time. If his bunker shot hadn't bailed him out at Harbour Town, he'd have the dreaded Choker monkey on his back for sure. Not a nice label to hang on a fellow Floridian & GT alum, but it's gotten to the point I can't watch him in contention without waiting for the disaster to happen.

Mattie does make the final round interesting but I think the win will certainly help him later on down the road.He had the game in the bag and then missed those putts and then put a approach in the sand and made it.........that should do wonders for his confidence down the road but will say he is a man that is content and is hard not to find anything wrong with him.Yes doubt he wants to be the TW with all the glamor etc.He is just a good guy who loves family and playing gold.....hope he wins a million titles.

We could create a goofy event like the Skins Game and invite only players who fit "the best golfer never to win a major" and see who really is the best of the group. Matt, Westwood, and Spittin' Sergio would definitely be in that field. I'd add, Poulter, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Luke Donald, Rickie Fowler, K.J. Choi, Hunter Mahan. Wow, this might really be a marketable concept!
