CPJ is officially on the chopping block

According to http://http://bleacherreport.com/art...in-2014/page/8 CPJ is on the chopping block, officially.

I still firmly believe that the Option offense works and that CPJ is a great coach, but his recruiting has not been great which I am sure is due to the offense. Either way, CPJ shouldn't be on the chopping block in my opinion because even with the lacking in recruiting, we've been doing alright. Do we honestly expect to be National Champions every year? If this is a slump then I'd say that we have got it made because I am sure that there are many colleges that would look up to a 7-5 season, while we look at it as if it were defeat. My hope every year is that the next year we will not have that one obvious problem that is keeping us back, and we can be national champions, and tbh I am satisfied that in a bad season, we still retain a winning record, a bowl, and a reputation as being a team that should not be underestimated.

    Link doesn't work.

Of course he is...this is basically his "contract year" because we have to fire him or double down on him after this year.

Your bar for GT football is lower than mine, so there's no point in arguing. All I will say is that if we are happy with 7-win seasons, fine, buts lets at least get back to normal football where there is at least a chance of recruiting a couple of really good players every year and who knows. Many many GT fans are so tired of watching this offense, me included. If it's not going to win us anymore games than the next offense, I choose the next offense. I am so sick and tired of Service Academy Football. Plus, maybe the next guy can recruit?

But does PJ get a 3 or 5 year extension at $2.5MM+/yr after going 7-5 this year? Man, I just don't know how you can say yes to that. That would give him a winning % over the last 5 years worse than what got Chan Fired. I'd rather just move on to the next guy. 7 years is enough of a chance. If he does get an extension after a mediocre season, I may just be completely done with GT football. It would be a clear message that GT just doesn't care about winning and I can't get behind a program that doesn't even want to try to win.

7 College Football Coaches Whose Jobs Are on the Line in 2014 | Bleacher Report

    See if this one works.

Myself, I'm on the fence about CPJ. I often step up to defend him on boards because I think some of the criticism is out of line. But, I wouldn't mind seeing a more balanced offensive approach, to be sure. I just don't think we can expect a different coach to win more games without help from the administration or a change in the landscape of college football. Wanting to see a different brand of football or a more media savvy coach to sell the program? That's valid and I can understand that line of thinking. For sure, this is a crucial year. The schedule sets up so that we ought to win 8 at least. And don't look now, but the 2015 schedule could be brutal.

26 losses in his last 4 years?

1-15 vs. the Big-4 with his own hand-picked recruits?

1-3 in bowl games over the last 4 years?

CPJ once dominated Clemson and since then has gone 1-3 vs. Clemson?

The Bowl record plus the record vs. the Big-4 over the last 4-years is 2-18 combined, a winning percentage of .100 vs. our 5 toughest games.

Had Chan done this plus lost a 20-point lead at home to UGA and lost 25 or 26 games over his last 4 years Chan would have clearly been fired.

MY only question is WHY is CPJ still the GT HC, to keep him as GT's HC is an embarrassment to the Institute, and indication that we have clearly lowered our Standards.

Do we even have Standards anymore at the GTAA?

Seems not! With the crap pj puts on the field against our rivals seems we have not settled for mediocrity but seems we have settled for crap!

We couldn't afford to fire him before, barring a complete meltdown it just wasn't worth it. As I said a year or two ago, however goes Vad, so goes PJ. Unless JT and this team just blows up this year, he should be done.

If he does get an extension after a good but not great season, we need to hire a 3rd party to negotiate the terms of his contract as we seem to really suck at such things. We should have all the leverage...none of this ridiculous payoff if he gets fired...maybe a year's salary and that's it. If he doesn't like it, he can go back to coaching in FCS or wherever will take him.

I'm telling you - every single fan of other schools in our region (i.e. fans who occasionally catch a GT game on TV or in person) that I talk to says the exact same thing, usually followed by a chuckle: "Y'all need to get rid of that guy. That offense will never work!"

No one outside of a few Hivers believes in this crap.

Those same fans in 2008 and 2009 were thinking, "Man, I wish he would go to Auburn so we don't have to face him every year." Funny how one year you are labeled a "genius" and a couple of years later you are a worse coach than foggy. Two or three players is all it takes.

Where are the two or three to help us out of seven and five after what......six seasons.....more to this than couple of players but will agree if you have the talent you can do bigthings with this offense.First two years we were loaded with better athletes than we have now...one thing that hurts us is by year six most ACC teams have gotten somewhat use to our offense.jWill agree after 2008 georgie was worried to death since we had many studs from Chan era back but........we lost the game in 09 and that hurt us badly in the morale war....we beat georgie in 09 and we cure alot of ills for awhile.

I hear the same thing and Cobby has a point since I am sure folks had high hopes for the option and the players coming back but.............we went what two or three yrs without players we needed to run this and folks......like it or not teams we play are catching up ...If the option was the cure all everybody would be running it..........look Bama and the Bear ran the bone for awhile and then got out of it........Texas same thing.......Aubuie did it for Bo and of course Okie and Nebraska had to change and the teams here had.........tons of athletes.Yes heard the wishes of non tech patrons and yes they dont like the coaching or the offense but thats football..
