    Kenderius Whitehead

From the AJC: Whitehead did not return phone calls but posted a picture on his Instagram page about his commitment to Georgia Tech. Whitehead took an official visit with the Yellow Jackets this weekend after going to West Virginia last week.

Junior-college DE commits to Georgia Tech, per report | College recruiting blog

Huge. Can step right in at DE, and be the rusher we need to try to replace Jeremiah. He'll arrive as a Sophomore.

We don't get many JUCO guys.

Here's what I posted on ATOS.

"When was the last JUCO transfer we got? Isn't this the first one for CPJ? (My Scout data says that our last JUCO had to be before 2002.)

Does this reflect a change on the part of the Hill? {Somewhat rhetorical since only time will tell.} I don't know why he went the JUCO route, usually it's to get the academics up. But that can often be a motivation/focus problem rather native intelligence."

Someone said Durant Brooks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durant_Brooks He transferred from GMI after graduating there. But that's a punter!

It has been a long long time. Maybe this was part of the 4 hour CPJ/Bobinski talk

Whitehead's high school coach has major ties to Georgia Tech and has a great relationship with the GT coaching staff and Paul Johnson. (His dad was an assistant coach at GT). Funny thing is, I can't remember his name (it is hell getting old). I spoke with him a few times while GT was recruiting Tuitt, Smith and Whitehead. Nice guy, my guess is that he helped assist Kenderius in landing at GT, which I think is a good place for him.

Demon Smith being at GT also may have helped sway Whitehead. Smith was the QB on that team and was a well-respected leader.

What I remember about Whitehead is speaking with him on the sidelines of the GT '10 spring game when he was being recruited. He didn't seem real interested in GT at the time, to be quite honest with you. GT was at the bottom of his top 5. Times change though, I guess.

AJC article says he went to ML King HS. It is in DeKalb Co, Ga. ML King's HC shows to be Cortez Allen.

Demond Smith went to Monroe Area HS. Tuitt went to Monroe also.

Thanks for jogging my memory, LFD. Whitehead went to Monroe his junior season, he transferred to ML King for his senior year. The high school coach who I didn't remember just re-entered my head... Jack Fligg..

Jim is right, he played at Monroe for 3 years then transferred to MLK "to get more exposure". He is supposedly really good friends with Demond Smith, per a guy at work that is from Monroe and follows their football; we were just talking about him today. The only negative thing he said was that he always heard the guy had a bad attitude, but maybe he has been humbled by this whole experience.

    Regardless, I'll take him!

I remember him being clean-cut and well-spoken and somewhat guarded. Maybe the being guarded is what some may have perceived as a bad attitude. I also remember him wanting a technical degree, either engineering or computer science, can't remember which. Fligg was high on him and thought he would be a great fit for Georgia Tech. If Whitehead had stayed at Monroe with Fligg and Demond, there is a good chance he would have ended up at Tech. Who knows, maybe there was a family situation that caused him to transfer...

MLK certainly has a high profile program. But schools can find you...like Tuitt.

This is all a dream. We really didn't get Whitehead because we have been told multiple times that we cannot recruit JUCO players. Whitehead is a JUCO transfer and therefore cannot be coming to GT.
