    How Vad Lee's Spring Break

Looks like Vad is spending his spring break out in San Diego working on improving his game. He's getting tutored on the finer points of QB play by the top QB "guru" at the moment, George Whitfield who I've mention a few times on this board. The guy ain't cheap, so you know Vad and his family are making a serious commitment to improving his QB play, and in the total picture, improving our team. Saw this on TOS:

For one, it's all about an SEC championship. For the other, it's a Big 12 title. Whitfield, meanwhile, flew back to his home in San Diego on Friday night. In a few days, a new batch of college quarterbacks arrive. Tajh Boyd and Chad Kelly are expected to come in from Clemson, Munchie Legeaux from Cincinnati, Vad Lee from Georgia Tech, and Max Wittek is driving down from USC.
You think Vad is going to bring up the Sun Bowl with Max Wittek?

The bigger thing is, I think it's a sign that CPJ is going to use that arm of Vad's more next season and Vad wants to be ready...and the more success Vad has with his arm, the more CPJ will be willing to put the ball in the air. CPJ promised Vad the more he practices passing the ball, the more he'll be willing to throw it...and this is one of the ultimate sacrifices Vad is making to improve our passing game. Well, it's looking more and more like the "Redskins offense" we heard about from Travis Custis may be showing up a little more next season. Combine that with our Run n Shoot...

    Can't wait for Spring Practice!

(BTW...if you want to follow George Whitfield on twitter, his handle is @georgewhitfield. He posts a lot of pics with his QB students, so there's a good chance we'll see Vad show up in them.)

Good stuff. Most of the guys seem to be going to PCB, and Vad's going to work on QB play. NICE! I'm excited about him leading our offense. If we have anything close to a Redskins type offense, it'll be amazing. I'm trying not to do it, but I picture #2 being as important to GT football as #14 or #10. His potential is that high.

That was a tough article to stomach though, all the BS about Aaron Murray!

Just realized we had trips to the left. Autry flat beat his guy on the single side.

Man that left to right drop back is funky. It did help draw the safety to trips side though.

It's a Cover 2. The corner on Autry is supposed to look shallow first, but with only 1 WR on his side, he probably should have known to drop quicker. The safety on his side was worried about the Seam Read from the Trips side, I guess.

Autry and Vad did a good job of seeing the defense. I'm encouraged that our passing game will be more effective vertically this year than in 2012, which should give us some more room in the running game.

The drop back is something all the RnS teams did. The idea was that you'd work teams on the stuff to the 3 WR side (Go and Slide) and then have a nice counter with Choice to isolate the lone WR. It's strange looking but Vad clearly did enough of it in practice to get it done well.

Thanks for the info re: Whitfield.

The RnS use to have funky footwork:

June Jones got rid of a lot of it when he went heavy shotgun for his version of the RnS. Just weird to see a right hander dropping back as a left hander then having to flip his hips. Just goes to show that the "traditional" QB footwork isn't alway "the" way for QBs operate if they're in different systems. Spread Option passing footwork is going to really mess with the "traditional" QB analysts...like Trent Dilfer!

    This is great to see..
Vad seems very committed to being a leader on and off the field, spring should be interesting.

Can we bring The Great Joe Hamilton back into the fold to asst as a QB coach?

For me, QB coach Tracy Ham also has a nice ring to it.

He DID coach in Atlanta in 2002-2004, but was fired as a HC.

But we don't need him to HC, just coach up Vad and Justin, and help teach them CPJ's offense from a player's (former QB IN the offense) perspective.

In the past GT football has often been JUST GOOD ENOUGH TO BREAK YOUR HEART!

I believe we are on the way to getting where we all want to be - Win Championships, and be more competitive with UGa and Bowl Games.

QB's looking up, WR's coming along(?), Welcome CTR, CMP and new AD, We have some good recruiters with a good class coming, Stamps back to ST's, all 3 phases should be better this year than last. We have team speed to match anyone we play.

    What's not to like?

Or it could be a sign of just how much Vad Lee feels the hot breath of Justin Thomas on the back of his neck!
