These changes would certainly help Tech, and the programs that don't bend the rules, but money and the factories run the NCAA, so don't see much of this happening. Would be fairer and make college football more interesting. Early signing may be adopted at some point.

Carvell's a dumbarse. He claims the biggest drawback is when coaches get fired or leave a school after the signing period begins. Easy, create an exception for those circumstances. Doesn't one already exist anyway?

This is a winning formula and levels the playing field a smidge towards the smaller schools. Now it doesn't level it completely or even close, but it's a little. Guys like Saben wouldn't be able to recruit 5 classes in 4 years anymore.

If you think about it, 25 a year is 100 in 4 years and that's without redshirting a soul. You'd still be allowed a natural attrition rate of 4 per year and still stay under the cap. In reality, most schools redshirt some kids, so that allows for a much larger rate of attrition and still maintain 85 schollies.

If in pursuit of your destination, you plunge ahead, heedless of obstacles, and achieve nothing more than to sink in a swamp... What's the use of knowing True North?"

And you have very accurately explained why this will never happen.

I thought the NCAA was made up of all the college presidents. Seems like there's many more "have nots" than "haves" in that group. Why can't they pass this by simple majority?

I can't answer that. I would just ask how did those college presidents allow the present situation to evolve?

Because the office of "president" or "chancellor" is 90% political, tied mainly to fund raising, and in this anti-education environment controlling the House, it is more important than ever. Which in turn means keeping the alums happy, kow-towing to the cash and, as UNC more than adequately demostrated, selling your soul if necessary to win in major sports. Football is the majorist of 'em all, and provides funding for some of the minor sports. Let's not forget the now-digraced OSU president who was begging Tressel not to fire him.

All the more reason for the "have not" presidents to band together to level the playing field somewhat.
