Interesting observations in the current issue of THE BUZZ.It concerns the NFL draft in regards to the current Tech football players. It points out that the current players that have aspirations to go pro will all go the undrafted route.Among these are Uzzi,Sweeting,Cross,Barnes,Smith. Only 4 of these players competed in any all star games, and none were invited to play in the main showcase, the Senior Bowl. Most will go to the combine and all will participate after that in the Pro Day to try and increase interest in case thay don't do well in the combine.A few observations stuck out, Barnes saying he was "just going out and play. Meanwhile, Smith was taking hundreds of "handoffs" to get back in the "groove" after taking pitch-outs as a halfback. Uzzi was practicing working on his footwork for pass blocking.Even though Tech has a number of players in the NFL most came under Elmer Fudd, aka Gailey. I only point this article out because we currently run the TO under PJ, but this doesn't really get the players ready for the NFL and lets face it folks, even though it doesn't happen for most football players, most feel like they can play in the NFL, so why limit their chances by playing in a TO offense.Just throwing it out there!
"A compass, I learnt when I was surveying, it'll... it'll point you True North from where you're standing, but it's got no advice about the swamps and deserts and chasms that you'll encounter along the way. If in pursuit of your destination, you plunge ahead, heedless of obstacles, and achieve nothing more than to sink in a swamp... What's the use of knowing True North?"

If you can play the NFL will find you. Everything I've read says it's a very strong possibility the Falcons cut Harry Douglas to save cap space. Their proposed replacement is already on the roster.....Kevin Cone. Lets not forget Jeff George, JaMarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf made scouts drool. Meanwhile, Kurt Warner, Wes Welker and Jessie Tuggle weren't drafted.
And linemen from pass-first offenses have to work on run-blocking. And WR's from other offenses have to work much more on identifying coverages. And shotgun spread option running backs have to work on different aiming points. And shotgun QBs have to work on taking snaps from under center. And so on.
Not having players in the draft is a bad reflection on the program. If Orwin had those numbers at Ohio St or Florida he'd been damn near a Heisman candidate.

Having 2 of the top 5 WRs in the NFL is a good reflection on the program. Dwyer, Ant Allen, Michael Johnson, Philip Wheeler, Vance Walker, Daryl Smith, Morgan Burnett, Derrick Morgan, Brooking, Choice, Gary Guyton, Dawan Landry.....look good for GT. If Jemea and Attouchu left early, they'd be around 3rd to 4th round picks.
CPJ has only one recruited player to be drafted.
I don't think Orwin would have those numbers at those schools. Hell, he only got 600-something yards to begin with.
There will almost always be things that a player coming out of college is going to need to work on to get his NFL groove on, but the fact is our offense has the biggest gap as far as NFL things to learn. It just is what it is people. There is a steeper hill to climb coming out of this system. But we don't exist to prepare players for the NFL, so what? It's a negative for recruiting players that obsess on going to the NFL but we don't get many of those anyway.
