As we all have noticed CPJ has broadened and warmed up to Twitter, I believe every coach has a Twitter account now. Well there are couple of things CPJ is doing differently in recruiting this year.
1. Tech has over 90 offers out. He has never had this many offers out this early in recruiting before. Eric Thompson is predicting 150 offers.
2. The incorporation of Twitter. (I hope he opens up to Skype, Instagram, ect) right now the NCAA has no regulations to the number of times a recruit can be contacted via Facebook, Skype, ect.
3. Prospect are being allowed to interact on campus a lot more. This may be due to the fact that two of our top prospects are also the siblings of current players but Tech is bringing them to campus and allowing them to just hangout.
Is there anything else new to his approach? I think the changes will yield positive results.
Recruits have always loved to visit GT, unfortunately when it comes to signing with us it was a different story.
I really like that GT coaches are putting offers in front of more kids, and it probably comes with a caveat of grades to CYA themselves. Recruits put value on a school being one of the first to offer (how many times have we heard our own recruits say school X is getting a visit because they were the first to offer?), plus it puts a seed in their heads that GT exists.
I think the two biggest things CPJ can do to change recruits minds about our program is: 1) Do exactly what he promised Jeune and Custis, and take what he did last season with the Pistol and passing more to the next level. 2) Win...it's simple. Kids want to play for winners.
The biggest thing, IMO, that CPJ did this offseason in terms of recruiting was hire two VERY good recruiters for positions on the staff...Roof and Pelton. Said it for years, good recruiters are worth every penny, and can change the complexion of our team.
"A compass, I learnt when I was surveying, it'll... it'll point you True North from where you're standing, but it's got no advice about the swamps and deserts and chasms that you'll encounter along the way. If in pursuit of your destination, you plunge ahead, heedless of obstacles, and achieve nothing more than to sink in a swamp... What's the use of knowing True North?"

I like the abundance of the offers. The coaches must had some lessons learned with this past recruiting class. That's what good organizations do, learn from mistakes, and adapt. I don't like the oversigning, but the coaching staff should have a better contingency plan for dealing with these last minute flip-flops so they don't wind up being 4 schollies short going into the season.
Don't understand estimate the new AD in all this with his comments during his press conference.
It's interesting that people are bringing up Roof and Pelton. They've had experience recruiting in the SEC, where oversigning is rampant. Is GT possibly gonna take up this philosophy?

Would it possibly benefit us to "oversign" given our typical attrition? If only 1-3, nothing crazy. Just throwing the idea out there.
