    a divided fan base

Maybe I'm off base here but it seems like us fans have been very divided over the football program since Oleary left. If I'm not mistaken there were many who felt McWhorter should've had a shot as the head coach when Gailey was hired. It seems since then the divide has not gotten any smaller and maybe even increased in some respects. When PJ came on board I think there was a lot of optimism that after Gailey one of the things he would do is unite the us. To some degree he did the first two years. However, even when we were winning there were still a lot of fans that were vocal in their displeasure with the direction of the program. Over the last few years this has not gotten better as anyone who reads this or the other boards can see.

Although we can't say for certain that any of these would play out this way lets run a couple of scenarios...What if we'd hired Muschamp and he won like PJ did the first couple years and then bolted for a factory? We would then be starting over from scratch again. How about someone like Neuheisel, who again even if he won like PJ did the first couple years, was controversial due to his NCAA baggage? Or how about an unproven head coach like Tenuta, who also had his own set of negatives according to many of our fans? Obviously if any of those guys, or any other coach for that matter, came in and did worse then Chan had we probably would be fairly united in getting rid of the guy. On the flip side if they'd won at a better clip the PJ has and sustained that success without their negatives being an issue we'd also probably be fairly united. As an example Muschamp didn't bolt for a factory, Neuheisel ran a squeaky clean program, and Tenuta wasn't...well Tenuta.

What I really want to know is does everyone else really feel our fanbase is that divided? If so is it more so then other schools fans? If it is more so then other schools is it because GT is unique, ie wants to be MIT during the week and FSU on Saturdays? Or is it really as simple as some just don't like certain head coaches or offensive styles or whatever else we all bitch about on here? After lurking here since the last couple years of Chans tenure and only really joining in the conversation this year I've been thinking about this a lot. I really feel like a lot of the divisiveness is due to the uniqueness of GT and the hurdles we face competing in today's college football landscape. What say you?

Yep see divison over offense and direction of program but it seems Age is a factor.guys before GOL have little in common with guys like me who have seen bunch of football.Young guys will not say much vs PJ nor will they comment on GOP'ROSS or Dodd but that's cool everybody has right to vent.Still don't think we are no better or worse than other schools since puppy world goes wild when ga and MR lose. Guess we need to keep winning since winning takes care of lot of ills. Now I have admitted several times I don't like the option but I sure like,..........seeing Tech win football games.

If we win ten or eleven games, including three of the big five:
    - Turkey Tech
    - Clemsin
    - The University in Godforsaken Athens
    - ACCCG
    - A bowl
you'll see a lot fewer complaints.

Winning would definitely help, but I think a lot of people are unhappy with the style of offense and a smug head coach as well.

This is certainly true. And the uniforms...ugh. I should have a little more to say about this tomorrow.

Really? I love averaging 30+ points per game, and a coach who doesn't worship at the alter of coachspeak. It's the DEFENSE that's the problem!

I see a couple of people mentioned winning...but we were winning in 08 and 09 and just as many fans voiced displeasure with the head coach during those 2 years. Part of the reason for the question is this divide has been there for 11 years and counting. It's not like the program has been Bill Lewis bad either.
