The blocking below the waste rule sounds about right. It wouldn't hurt us because we don't try to cut guys from the side anyway.

One rule I wish they'd make is that they'd require all games to include cameras on the goal line to review td's where breaking the plane is in question. The way it is now, I have yet to see a game with a camera with a 0 degree angle to the goal line. Every replay has some angle that prevents certainty.

If in pursuit of your destination, you plunge ahead, heedless of obstacles, and achieve nothing more than to sink in a swamp... What's the use of knowing True North?"

I agree, it seems to me they could have fixed cameras on each side of the goal lines at minimal cost.

ABs cracking down don't ever go low? I guess they aren't wide enough to really cut somebody from the side.

I agree, #4 is stupid. As for blocking below the waist, what is defined as "in front of" ? This will probably be too much of a judgement call and could turn a game if an official "thinks" the blocker wasn't "in front". So, in my mind, this is also a very bad rule.

If this would eliminate the hi/lo engagement when done from the front, it would be reasonable. I can understand the danger of the hi/lo when from 2 directions, but it should not be a penalty if there is a double team and one play slips etc.

At the beginning of the season everyone was CRYING about the "lose your helmet, your out for a down" rule. There was the unintended consequence of opposing teams targeting key players to get them off of the field for a play. The talk of the entire first half of the season was to rethink this rule over the break. I honestly don't know if any action was ever taken on this rule. Did it get tossed out? Is it still valid?

Peeples had a huge block on Cam C. in the '09 VT game that sprung JN for a huge game. It was an illegal crack, imo, but we got away with it. I think the rule states that anyone lined up outside the tackle box cannot block below the waist when blocking back towards the ball. Abacks line up 1 yd outside the tackle box.

I don't think it is going away. I think players started making sure their lids were on and not to big.

Ah, you are probably right. That makes sense.

We were taught crab blocking DEs in HS as wingbacks though. Maybe it's a college thing.
