How many of the 85 scholarships are being used?

I have heard that Tech was using way less than the 85 available, but I am pretty sure that is not true. I assume when the coaches speak of using 14 of the 18, that that means GT has 81 scholarships tied up going into the 2013 season.

Does anybody have details on the available scholarship info to break it out by projected graduating class? And also by position?

I looked at it quickly using Scout.com's eligibility chart and it looks like Tech does have 81 guys on scholarship. Looking at the numbers of each position group they are either right on or 1 off what I think you would want for most positions. They have 2-3 too many linebackers, and that is with me assuming 1-2 of them will go to the defensive line. The team needs another pass rush specialist according to the numbers. The biggest need from a pure numbers standpoint is defensive back, they are need 3 more. Remember you can go 6 deep on the field at once in dime situations and special teams really heavy on this position group. Also according to my quick numbers it looks like CPJ redshirts 75% of his classes, and that was over the past few years where the senior classes were both smaller and "weaker talent wise" than you would normally expect. The redshirt percentage may actually increase the next two years with a more experienced team.

CPJ mentioned that there was 1 or 2 more that may sign at a later date.....that would only leave 2.....and others have mentioned awarding 1 years worth to walk ons.

When coach says we can take 1 or 2 more remember he has some flexibility regarding ships he's awarded to walkons. He gives those as a 1 yr guaranteed scholly. The kids know if they don't see significant action, those could be taken back and given to a new recruit.

GT has 2X scholarships tied up with 2 designated kickers, don't they???
In the past GT football has often been JUST GOOD ENOUGH TO BREAK YOUR HEART!

I believe we are on the way to getting where we all want to be - Win Championships, and be more competitive with UGa and Bowl Games.

QB's looking up, WR's coming along(?), Welcome CTR, CMP and new AD, We have some good recruiters with a good class coming, Stamps back to ST's, all 3 phases should be better this year than last. We have team speed to match anyone we play.

    What's not to like?

2 kickers, a punter, and a long snapper.

Is it normal to have a special spot for a long snapper? Can't just find some scrubby lineman to do it? I was a long snapper as well, damn, maybe I could have been a collegiate FB player with my snapping abilities!

Sure anyone can long snap. They may just take long enough to get the ball blocked or put it in the wrong place. What's the diff? Does our long snapper also play other positions?

I think after the 2010 season and Air Force's best play being their punting to us along with many other ST disasters, that CPJ got religion on STs. Last year we were better in everything except for kick off distances and FGs. Butker should fix that.

If we have 81 committed to scholarship now, that is good since it leaves room for Elder and maybe James or Dalton or Ellison. here is still time to go for some great players. Scout.com: Football Recruiting

Since CPJ doesn't pull scholarships, he needs a few for good opportunities. Sleazebags elsewhere may pull scholarships but we shouldn't and don't.
