Pretty Interesting Stuff From Jay Finch

Here's the whole Q&A on Reddit:

IAmA college Football player in the ACC AMA : IAmA

    Highlights:

Is there one player on your team who you believe has the possibility to go all the way to the top? And if so, what's their name?

    Vad lee

How would you like to play Oregon?

I would I think it would be awesome to play a more modern read option opposed to our older version the triple option

Are girls easy to come by? 2. Do you keep with with your studies?

Girls there are plent but they are also just like the parking at tech all good spots are always taken, (unlike myself lucky enough to meet my gf at a falcons game)and I do keep up with my studies even managed to get an A on my first test of the semester (haha)

A proud Yellow Jacket alumnus here (Physics 99) just checking in to say you guys really pulled it together in the second half of the season. I was really impressed with the way you came together and finished strong. I watch every game from the west coast, and if you ever see a guy in Seattle wearing GT gear, it's probably me.

    Three questions:

    1) Would you like to see any changes in CPJ's blocking scheme? When the cut blocks (particularly on the edge) are working well, they work really well. When they aren't working well, it seems that five defenders are standing in the backfield and all of you are piled on the ground somewhere around the line of scrimmage.

    2) What is the next big thing that GT Football needs to be competitive in recruiting? Now that you have the indoor practice field, what's next?

    3) What's the good word?

i will make sure to keep a weathered eye open if i am ever out that way!

    1) changes to the schemes no but maybe more formations to run them out of like navy does, in our offensive we have to be all hitting on the same counts and timing if not you get that result us just laying on the ground in piles haha.

    2) i would say a major up grade to the weight room ! because my father said it looks almost the same since he was there!

    3) THWG!

Your opinion of U$C's game prep/focus?

I felt that they where very disrespectful both on and off the field while they where in El Paso and that being the case I feel they where also very distracted in their prep and focus for the game because they were to busy complaining

Do you think Georgia Tech should change our recruiting strategy to "oversign" like all the other schools around us do, in order to compete? If not, how do you think we should handle recruits bailing before national signing day?

That, being, you know, the major point of conversation among Tech fans the past week or so.

well i believe that players or potential prospects for our school should respect the verbal agreements that they make, so i would say no becuase to be honest i dont want people playing with me that really didnt want to be their in the first place any ways but that is just my opinion as a player

Who is the strongest player on the team? Fastest?

Could you briefly describe how it is playing under CPJ? Specifically being the center in a triple option offense. Do you have Pre-snap responsibilities?

What sort of change are you expecting under CTR?
well i actually won the team competition called the iron jacket as well the first offensive linemen to ever win it, but fastest for sure has to be broderick snoddy, playing under cpj is very demmanding as i imagine it is at every college with a football program that has a good coach, and being a center in the triple offense i do have presnap responsibilities even thought we dont play in a pro style offense.

I'm a GT alum. How do you feel about Paul Johnson's offense?

John H Finch IV that's me, and playing in his offense is a lot of fun because over the last three years I think we have been in the top offenses with plays of over 20+ yards which makes for some exciting football and offense

What can we expect from the offense with Vad Lee at the helm this coming season? More pistol formations?

You can expect more passing hopefully ! He has got a cannon and can run

What's your opinion on how recruiting has been going?

o be honest i feel like it has been moving along quite well even though we dont over recruit like every other school

What's it like playing OL for a triple option team that runs most of the time?

To be honest I like it out of the pistol more. takes a lot of mental discipline and sometimes really makes you appreciate passing (So linemen want to pass too?!!!)

Interesting that he points to Navy for formation stuff. I know we started to do some of Navy's double motion stuff this year - A Back comes in motion, stops at B-Back, then goes back - but not nearly as much as they do it. It's a nice way to keep teams from jumping the snap.
I didn't watch too much Navy this year. What sort of formations is he talking about?

He likes the pistol more...I think that snap is harder on a center. Maybe that's what he means by requiring more mental discipline.

Finch is a really underrated player. Some people talk crap about him and I just don't understand it. The guy has held his own in most games, even against guys who are, on paper, supposed to dominate him.

For what its worth, I thought he was the "least replaceable" player on offense. When he missed snaps due to injury I held my breath.
