This is a discussion on 2* Brendan Douglas gets bumped to a 3* after flipping to Ugag within the Georgia Tech Football forums, part of the Georgia Tech Sports Message Boards category; Star system is not flawed. The kid got way better in one day. He must of been working out. Btw, ...
Star system is not flawed. The kid got way better in one day. He must of been working out.
Btw, he would have been their only 2* had he stayed that way. Good thing the "star gurus" wisened up the last week before NSD. Gee, I wonder if he would have been bumped had he not flipped?

If in pursuit of your destination, you plunge ahead, heedless of obstacles, and achieve nothing more than to sink in a swamp... What's the use of knowing True North?"

Well, I mean...if UGA offered him, he must be a little good!?
Can't tell if serious.
So, assuming you are, you're saying "star guru" evaluation/ratings/rankings take into account offer lists and that this is ok? I thought they were supposed to be talent evaluators??? How does a kid get better by who offers them? Maybe it's an admission that they were, gasp, wrong about the kid all along? Can't be that...

Haha. Perfect example of the influences on the star system that pander to the factories and their rankings.
Note: As has been debated over, and over, and over....and over again, there is merit and definite correlation with the star rankings, but to suggest that the rankings aren't biased by what school offers or which school gets the commit when evaluating a player is just a blind as saying that the stars mean nothing.
Pretty much at this point everyone knows when you get beyond the 5's and most of the 4's it's a sham.
You see some definite BS around the 3* to 4* transition. We had two 4's who once committed to GT dropped to three on Rivals (Hall, Devine). Seen it happen a number of times....always in favor of the factories.
I am only half serious. I get their reasoning - good players get offered by good teams, but also realize the flaw in the evaluation process - it's not all about what they see on film. There is obviously some bias in the system but it is also somewhat understandable to a small extent.
I kind of agree with InsideLB, once you get below 4* you are basically just "everybody else" and it gets much more arbitrary.

The UGA/factory bias cancels out the white running back bias. The kid was actually a 4* the whole time...
