Douglas explains why he chose UGA over Ga. Tech

Q&A with RB who flipped from Georgia Tech to UGA | College Recruiting | www.ajc.com

He doesn't know why? It was crazy? Georgia wore him out? It just felt right? All of these are great reasons.

Lex, as I posted in another thread on this site, all too often the young men being recruited are, at the end of the day, kids - and frankly, in many cases, their "word" is absolutely worthless. Some are simply too young, too immature, to understand the concept - or they don't possess the core values yet to grasp the idea that when you tell someone something, there comes at point when you don't go back on your word. Some people (not just athletes) never "get it" - others do.

The whole recruiting process is screwed up beyond belief. We need an early signing date, and a stoppage of all contact from coaches of schools other than the one to whom a commitment was given for several weeks leading up to signing day. This "babysitting" is costing schools an enormous amount of money and energy, and puts kids in an ever more difficult position.

What position did UGA recruit you at? Fullback? “At tailback, or running back. They have only two on scholarship right now. They are two really good ones. I’m ready to come in and compete. I’m just going to work hard and do what I can.”
Geez, wonder if he really thinks he's going to play tailback? He may not know it yet, but he's playing fullback. He'd rather lead block for UGA than tote the rock for GT. Screw him. Not very flattering to us but oh well. He was never excited to come here in the first place.

What the hell is going on with recruiting?! Attrition seems abnormally high this year, no?

Georgia has 30 commitments in this signing class. How much does he think he will get to play?

Kid has probably always dreamed of being a Dawg and he's going to get his shot. Winners believe in themselves. I don't want a kid that only comes to GT because 1) we were his only real offer and/or 2) he doesn't think he's good enough to actually play somewhere better. Didn't this guy get offered much earlier in the year and didn't take it? He was only coming here because we were the only show in town. Hell, maybe playing FB at UGA is better for him than playing BB at GT. His best chance at a future in football is at FB, not RB. Damn sure hurts. BB just is not a sexy position to many recruits.

The thing about an early signing date, wouldn't it just move the recruiting histrionics forward?

It's just more proof that we need to do a better job of identifying more "total person" SA's, guys who are as equally interested in education as they are in football. Guys who are just in it for just football are more likely to be swayed when a factory comes calling at the 9th hour. We are basically their "best" available offer until what they really want comes along.

Meh, he's no big loss. He was a Preston Lyons type guy for us anyway (a walkon will fill his role surely). And, he can take his spot on the Ugay bench and shove it. Not really that angry about any of the other guys (even if their decisions make no sense like Mitchell playing QB for QB hating Bielima) but going to thUga is a different story. Again, shove it mutt!

The only thing worse than getting dumped by a hot cheerleader is being dumped by a fat girl in the glee club. The loss to GT talent wise probably isn't much but from a pride standpoint and the "market's" view of the program, it sucks.

Maybe he was reading this board and was convinced that the head coach sucks or something...
