GT Recruiting Ranked 61st by Rivals, 56th by Scout

The recruiting services have been dead on with Georgia Tech recruiting since Paul Johnson has been head coach at GT. He had that incredible 2007 recruiting class that Chan put together and Johnson rode it to a couple nice seasons as he started his tenure at Georgia Tech.

Since then, Paul Johnson's recruiting classes have been ranked mediocre by the recruiting services and that is what Paul Johnson has produced on field... mediocre football. Only one winning season in the past three and a mediocre 21-18 record.

Despite the protests of GT fans who cry out that the recruiting services don't know anything, the recruiting services have been all knowing. They have got Paul Jonson and his mediocre recruiting pegged and have been dead on in the past.

This year Rivals has GT ranked 61st and Scout has GT ranked 5th. Those are the lowest cumulative rankings since Johnson has been at Georgia Tech. Looks like more mediocre at best Paul Johnson football coming in the future.

The recruiting services have been having far better years rating recruiting classes than Paul Johnson has had winning football games.

As GT fans you can try and protest and hem and haw but the bottom line is... facts are facts.

I've said this numerous times but many will say that the services aren't always right. Yes, they aren't right all the time but it isn't a big shocker that the teams that are always near the top of the recruiting rankings usually have good seasons. Since 2002, we've had 3 really solid years (9 wins or more). 1 season was with Calvin Johnson as the best player in college football. The other 2 were with our 17th ranked recruiting class. Every single other season we have been mediocre and our recruiting rankings have been mediocre. It's not rocket science.

Say Jim, how did the recruiting services evaluate Isaiah, Caleb and Washaun ? They were all five stars, weren't they? And what do you think Southern Cal's average ranking has been the last four years? I forgot. And when it comes to Paul Johnson, I think that you should take a break and douche-up. That sand in your vagina is making you say stupid things.......

It needs to get better, but if we signed the amount of players that other schools sign we would be in the 30s every year probably, which is actually not that bad. It seems like we sign 18-24 players every year while SEC schools sign 30+
I personally like to look at the star average, if we can keep it about 3.0 I'm happy, if we could get it to 3.3-3.5 we'd be in really good shape. We honestly don't have that far to go to improve recruiting, we've just got to step up one notch so to speak.

    +1.

We love you Jim for putting this site together, but really. Lee has it nailed. We have what? 15 recruits when everyone in the top 25 has a class of 25 or more? How is this possible if your not coming off a scholarship reduction? It called grey shirting which is wrong on the level our opponents are doing?

I'm one who believes we CAN win a NCAA Championship with recruiting classes in the top 30 (weighted among the players not total recruits)

Tech is behind several teams in the recruiting services rankings solely because those teams have more recruits. So is the argument we get low marks because we can't recruit or don't have many openings. Lets be honest the last two years the QB was a big problem and I know CPJ got caught with his pants down, but look back at past recruiting classes he had players signed that didn't pan out and they were 4 star talent. I don't want to hear about the piss poor defense as an excuse because we could or should be out scoring teams anyways. If Vad doesn't deliver then Jim you have an argument, if Vad delivers then your opinion is wrong. It is as simple as that. And yes I'm saying One man can change the outlook of team in college football. eg Cam Newton

Midland - who is saying Vad wont't deliver? No-one on this board yet... Tech has a bright future!

I'd say the recruiting services nailed it with Isaiah. The kid is really talented and had a great year as a Fr even with injuries. I don't think the star rankings have retard factored into their ratings. Caleb was a bust and Ealey didn't quite live up to the hype.

Of course there will always be outliers. But UGA, Alabama, LSU, and Florida are always in the mix and they always have highly ranked classes.

Maybe my math is bad, but HOW can any team sign 25+ players every year and stay within the total schollys allowed? Only way I see is players leaving early, like to NFL draft, or getting dropped.

On average, how many players per year, do the factories send to the NFL? How many of them are underclassmen?

    Just wondering...
In the past GT football has often been JUST GOOD ENOUGH TO BREAK YOUR HEART!

I believe we are on the way to getting where we all want to be - Win Championships, and be more competitive with UGa and Bowl Games.

QB's looking up, WR's coming along(?), Welcome CTR, CMP and new AD, We have some good recruiters with a good class coming, Stamps back to ST's, all 3 phases should be better this year than last. We have team speed to match anyone we play.

    What's not to like?

On the surface, that is conventional knowledge. I used to think the same thing at one time, Lee, but have changed my mind based on experience.

The more players you sign the more difficult it is to keep signing highly rated players. GT is usually able to sign about 15 players and have an overall player rating of close to 3.0. After GT signs 15 players you see a lot of 2* players. If GT were to sign 30, probably 10-12 would be 2*. Johnson has been onl his "B" list for a long time in with class.

Johnson will still beat a lot of mediocre teams with his offense and surprise someone good every now and then but I think 8 wins is about his ceiling now unless he gets a season where the schedule is very favorable or the opponents get above average injuries.
