Noticed that Izaan Cross played most of the game and had a great "JJ Watt" style batted pass in the first quarter... Rod Sweeting played well in the first quarter and had an almost-pick that got him some camera time. Apart from that had a quiet game and usually locked down guys he was supposed to cover... Nonetheless, I don't think he played the whole game (maybe half) but did get some meaningful minutes...
What is truly discomforting though is the severe lack of GT personnel on the offensive side of the ball.. Though Orwin Smith and Omoregie Uzzi were both on the roster and were undisputedly our best playmakers in the backfield and O-line respectively, they saw NO meaningful minutes at all. In fact I doubt either one even played a snap. This, in short, sucks. Makes even less sense given that the East run-game was sh!te, and putting either one (if not both) on the field would have only helped that aspect... Plus Orwin's abilities as a hybrid tailback/slot receiver should have gotten him some minutes...
Thoughts?
Orwin was at the NFLPA bowl, where he carried 8 times for 40 yards. Think he had the most yardage and highest average of anyone there.
Most came off of two big bursts... one was a outside zone/stretch where he blew by the linebackers. The other was a lead, I believe.
At the end of the game the announcers, Bill Polian, Todd Mcshay, etc, all named one name that stood out during the week and game. Mcshay's was Orwin Smith.
Glad to hear that.. we need to be able to get our athletes drafted at offensive positions that are not WR...
Still kinda sucks about Uzzi though...
Orwin had some big runs negated by holding penalties he would've had 80 yards if I remeber correctly
Well if our A-backs look good in a pro set running the ball, they have skills very few other backs do. They spend more time blocking linebackers and running routes down the field than almost all running backs in any other system.
