    My concerns regarding CPJ defensive coord. hire

    Why would a lance thomas or other highly sought after defensive coord. prospect take a chance on their job security that they have now to take a risk that if CPJ got canned next year that they probably would be gone to. If CPJ is only going to pay a new hire $350.000 to $400.000 a year I not sure that I would take the job either. I got to feel that these candidates will be factoring this into their thinking. Thoughts?

    No question legitimate views. But keep in mind these guys are high rollers, their eyes always on the next prize, and much like we were at 17, immortal and nothing can happen to them. I am not sure Tech can do $350,000 again -- remember the special end-of-contract bonus for Groh after the payout for Gailey expired -- but what the hey, it is just what it is and Johnson has to deal with it. GT apparently does not have a wide-ranging, rabid fan base flush with cash -- think IPTAY, who, to get a winner, will mortgage their houses and sell their families. Never have figured out why Clemson with an engineering reputation that is okay but not close to Tech, has so much money and Tech has so little. Anybody?

    Clemson

    Unlike Tech Clemson is a big university. If the same percentage is applied, of contributing wealthy alums, then they would have at least 3 to our 1.

    I would also like to know the funding mechanizism at Clemson. While we are an afterthought to the Georgia Board of Regents I am sure The State of South Carolina at least equally funds Clemson and USC. After all there was a longtime where Clemson was football in that state.

    I'm amazed how some of you want the head of Paul Johnson. If Bobby Dodd were here today you would be doing the same. Paul Johnson is a terrific coach. Georgia Tech is a terrific school with tough academic standards. Why don't you volunteer to help recruiting then we can judge your performance!

    CPJ is here for another 3 years. The second half of the season cemented that, barring a worse year next year (which is very improbable). But in today's environment, ALL DCs know they and their HC can be gone in two years. Look at Auburn and the change out of HCs this year. Look at what MD did to the Fridge.

    There is a lot of D talent at GT to work with. It's not like we don't have a physicality upgrade coming on the DL with Kallon and Gotsis second year. Plus Green and Kieke coming back. Plus our new kicker should give the D some more breathing room with touch backs.

    Finally, the D at GT doesn't have to pitch shutouts to win, just hold the other team to 24 or less. There is more room for error for the D when paired with a top O and reasonable STs.

    The glass is as full here as it is anywhere. {Color my glasses gold tonight.}

    CPJ isn't going anywhere for a while, but if you a young hungry coach looking for an upward move this would be a great opportunity.

    I personally have to think CAM is in the mix. He has the proven results as a big time D1 DC and has been a head coach in the past. Wonder if this is why things are so quiet. He was CPJ's go to guy on the field for defense after Groh left.

    +1 Plus Nick Saban could take a Pro job tomorrow or just retire. It has bee quoted by his wife that he is not enjoying it anymore.

    I wonder where Stamps will end up, he has some valuable defensive coaching experience if I am not mistaken.
    In the past GT football has often been JUST GOOD ENOUGH TO BREAK YOUR HEART!

    I believe we are on the way to getting where we all want to be - Win Championships, and be more competitive with UGa and Bowl Games.

    QB's looking up, WR's coming along(?), Welcome CTR, CMP and new AD, We have some good recruiters with a good class coming, Stamps back to ST's, all 3 phases should be better this year than last. We have team speed to match anyone we play.

    What's not to like?

    Actually, I think Saban would make a good DC for us.
