Expansion Update: GT On The Clock, Big 12 Makes A Push | Eers Authority
The article says, we've already been extended an invite. Hmm...
Personally, I don't mind. We really need the extra money so we can hire better coaches. I don't like the fact that we hired our previous two DCs from the dollar store. Some of our rivalries like GT-Clemson will go away, but nothing that is truly historic is going to go away. We'll still play UGA every year and maybe with the extra money in our pockets, be a bit more competitive.
Could this decision even be made with us not even having an AD? Isn't this a job for the AD? Would Bud make this call with out an important administrators advice and assistance?

The same thing Maryland is going to do - take out a loan based on B1G earnings or B1G will provide the $50m upfront. Plus, it is still not clear if the entire $50m is enforceable or not. The courts might consider the exit fee punitive in which case a lower settlement is almost certain.
It's still profitable with the $50MM...hard to believe, but that's what his guy says...
Not sure I follow the math.Maryland ran the numbers and found it would be profitable for them to leave the ACC for the Big 10 even if they had to pay the exit fee. The revenue gap between the ACC and the big 4 is so significant that Maryland reasoned it would make $100 million more in revenues over a 10 year period even if forced to pay the exit fee.
But this really sucks:
The Techies may not admit it but they have money problems too, not as severe as Maryland’s but real just the same. Georgia Tech ranked 11th in the ACC for the year ending 2010 (the latest report available) in athletic department profit with a paltry $138,659.
Acc football stinks. Leaving for b1g would be great. Ohio st, penn st, mich, nebraska... Hell yeah!
We'll show those boys what option ball is all about.
Of course the article was mostly rumor and innuendo.
Be funny if the acc is gutted and drad gets stuck there with clemson, though.
It is what it shall be, forevermore.
Only bummer would be all of the travelling to the away games. At least you can drive to many of the ACC schools in a day or less.
