UGA Prepping For GT..I Mean GA Southern This Week

    I found this funny:

LT Mark Beard’s performance in first start ‘beyond good,’ coaches and teammates say | UGA sports blog

Bulldogs switch things up for practice, go full pads

Georgia practiced in full pads Monday, a change of pace from its normal routine.

I heard rumors throughout the day from the guys that we might be doing that, just because of teams like (Georgia) Tech that run this kind of offense,” Theus said. “So I was hoping it wasn’t true, but it was true.”

Theus followed it up by saying he felt it was a “better Monday practice than we normally have.”

Richt echoed Theus’ sentiment, saying players “worked hard” and were “zeroed in on the task at hand.” Given the triple-option offense Georgia Southern runs, Richt said it was imperative his team prepare accordingly for a scheme it doesn’t face often. He believed Monday’s practice got the the Bulldogs heading in the right direction.

Our focus this week will be completely on Georgia Southern, not on any other teams and not on the game in Atlanta,” Richt told UGA Sports Communications. “We know that we have a challenge on our hands against Georgia Southern, especially from a defensive standpoint. It is critical that we have a great week of scout-team work. We have to really dial in on our assignments and our fundamentals.”
I like how the player names GT but Richt tries to shift the focus to the "task at hand" which would be GA Southern.

How embarrassing would it be if GA Southern beats them and we don't?

Or how about Miami decides to self impose a bowl ban as we lose to Duke?

Anymore doomsday scenarios on your mind?

And possible. If Georgia struggled and lost to Southern, you know damn well they would get it fixed and pound the bejeezus out of us. However, if they roll Southern, take their eye off of us for a second, we could sneak in there.

A little less probable, I think. Honestly, I don't think it's a doomsday scenario, if you look at how tough Southern played Bama last year. UGA's defense isn't anywhere near as disciplined as that Bama squad.

I expect this to be a much closer game than Richt will be comfortable with.

I think this plays in our favor. I hope CPJ and GSU are working together on a game plan to beat UGAy. I hope GSU runs one set of plays and we run a completely different set of plays. I always like hearing int he post-game presser about how we did stuff they didn't even prepare for (this happened against Maryland). Meanwhile, UGAy is looking forward to the week after us against Bama.

Georgia Southern will not beat UGA. It won't be close. We would beat Southern by 3 or 4 TD's.

Exactly. They're just bigger, faster and have more arrests.

Right, because this worked out really well for us in 2002, 2003, 2005 and last year. People, THIS WILL NOT BE A FACTOR! Everyone says this every year they play in Atlanta the week after us. They don't like us and they don't want to lose to us. They will be focused on us.

Bottom line, it is a long shot that we beat UGA. They are better in pretty much every aspect than us. They have NFL talent on both sides of the ball. They are loaded on defense and have elite talent on the DL and at LB. They are every bit as good as their #5 ranking. The odds are against us.

If we are going to beat UGA, we will have to have a UNC type effort on offense and special teams and a Virginia/Virginia Tech type effort on defense. We'll have to play our best game of the year. They will hit big plays. With that said, we will have to get stops and/or force them to kick FGs. That means being good on 3rd down, which we know has been a struggle. When we do we have to come back and score TD's. We will have to force a couple of turnovers and we can't turn the ball over. We will probably only be able to afford to punt the ball 2 or 3 times. Some might think that is too many.
