Update on onetime UGA and Georgia Tech OL target | AJC College Sports Recruiting
Hmm...so several interesting things could be developing here:Georgia Tech has 13 commits for 2013, including three offensive linemen. The Yellow Jackets made their first run at Crooks after a pair of offensive linemen from Tri-Cities, Shamire DeVine and Jeremi Hall, pledged to the ACC school last June.
“Georgia Tech got the two big boys from Tri-Cities, said they only had one spot available, and said they needed to know from Delando if he was interested in that spot,” Myles said. “He wasn’t ready to commit, and Georgia Tech decided to move forward with somebody else.”
Flash forward to about three weeks ago: Out of the blue, the Carver coach said he was approached again by Georgia Tech: “(Assistant Buzz Preston) called and said they had another scholarship that came available. They wanted to know again if Delando was interested. At that point, Delando elected to decline.”
1) CPJ and a player currently on the roster have talked about leaving the program early for whatever reason and it will free up a scholarship. CPJ has said on the record that we're signing between 14-16 players this year but they don't have the final number yet as they're still seeing how the year develops.
2) One of our current commits is on the verge of de-committing for whatever reason.
3) This is the most interesting one: Since we have limited spaces, and we're probably going to have certain numbers of spaces for certain positions, are we about to lose one of our 3 OLs...Shamire Devine, Jeremy Hall, Chris Griffin? I know there may be issues with one of our current OL commits, and maybe now the staff and the recruit have realized it may be better to cut ties and start finding alternatives. (No, I won't say which OL commit and what the issue is. If you do enough research, you can find it elsewhere.)
Something to keep an eye on.
Let's hope we win enough to go to a bowl and salvage the season. That will help recruiting.
Well it is common knowledge Hall needed to get some things done for the academics to work...not uncommon for this type of scenario to occur at GT....usually at least one decommit is actually an academic casualty.
Yeah, we seem to have one academic casualty every recruiting class unfortunately. It sucks when one of them is one of our top commits. Hopefully that's not the case this year though we do have 2 known commits whose commitments were contingent on getting certain things down academically.
God forbid we have another Junior Gnonkonde debacle again.
They're not the package deal everyone thought they were at the beginning of the process though they REALLY want to play together.
Shamire is getting some SERIOUS heat from big time programs right now, which is understandable because he's one of the top offensive tackles in the nation, but he's telling everyone he's solid to GT. I hear there's some negative recruiting going on regarding where we want to play him versus where his natural position is...but if push comes to shove I doubt our staff would say no to him playing tackle. He really likes the whole GT package, and not just the football part of it.
Whats the chances Tech signs Stacey Thomas and Jaylen Miller. Miller was at the Boston College game. Thomas has Tech in his top 3. Tech already has two defensive ends, but with their troubles rushing the passer going back to 2008 it is time to get desperate and sign every decent pass rusher you can. Hopefully they can land one of these two guys, to give GT 3 of the top 100 defensive ends in the country. I would probably prefer Thomas since he is more a speed guy it seems, and we need some speed on the edge to get after the passer.
Just a guess, but I would say probably unlikely. I would love to see us sign Jay Ellison. More size on the DL the better.
