dumb, dumb, dumb--mutt fan contact recruit by phone

heard something about this last week but just saw the article on AJC. mutt fan actually called a recruit.

this made me think about ole wreckneffects who jim gave the boot from here and his tweets to vad lee. wonder if that nut knew the whole time he was trying to hang CPJ out to dry for supposed recruiting violations he was committing multiple violations himself by tweeting to vad???

What is really dumb are in NCAA rules. Whether it is a "booster" or a fan, if they are not in the employment of the university and or are not getting any benefits from the university, then the university is powerless to do anything about it. From the recruit's side, outside of accepting any gifts they are powerless to stop it except for blocking calls etc if they don't want to be bothered.

very true. but, i guess common sense tells me not to personally contact and hound a potential recruit, you know? whether it's a secondary violation or not.

yep. it's one thing to discuss the merits of a recruit/recruiting class on fan forums. quite another to actually get caught up in the drama of it all. when one gets so consumed they personally contact a potential recruit by telephone or social media it's time to re-evaluate a bit.

The key words in the AJC story are "claiming to be" a Georgia fan. There's no way to know for certain.

Hey, I know what to do.....everybody on here contribute a few dollars to the UGA athletic department.....that makes you a booster.........then go out and contact every recruit multiple times

Of course the down side of the scheme is that you are permanently a UGA booster. As the GTAA site / compliance says....."Once a booster, always a booster"

'Tis a fate worse than death. Won't be long before I am headed back down to South Georgia for a weekend, and must be polite and patient with all my school friends who are invariably Georgia fans. A whole bunch are school teachers, so you would think that Georgia's education reputation would be better.
