Just read this article, and couldn't help but wonder what Robert Nkemdiche's HS coach meant by the following statement.
Robert Nkemdiche: The circus begins for the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect | AJC College Sports Recruiting
“I think Robert will wait until after his senior season of football,” Conn said. “I think he wants to see what everybody will offer. Right now with recruiting, he’s trying to put it all on the backburner to focus on his academics and preparing for his senior year. He, like the rest of the kids, wants to win another state championship. That’s what Robert is thinking about.”
emphasis added
WHAT??!!??!!??!! Surely he misspoke, or it is a misquote, or perhaps an off-target Freudian-slip-like commentary on the state of college recruiting. This man knows the recruiting process, right, and that all any school can offer is a scholarship? Or did he slip up and tell us what's really going on with Robert's recruitment?
I think he just means what does each school bring to the table as far as pluses and minuses, mainly pluses.
I'm sure he probably meant to say "what everybody has to offer" or "who all will offer". But a good reporter would have picked up on this and prodded him for more info, or asked for some clarification. (I know, I'm asking too much from an AJC reporter, particularly this one.) However, the way it is quoted certainly leaves it open to interpretation and conjecture, especially among those who like to stir the pot.
On the other hand, I'm of the train of thought that believes that people say what they mean 99% of the time, whether intentional or not. Is this a case of the 1% misspoken, or did he actually say what he meant? I doubt we'll ever know.
I think we all know these games do happen in today's world with the highest profile recruits, but just to play the other side, things he could mean:
What they will offer in terms of guaranteed playing time/starting freshman year
Position opportunities
Hot coeds and car allowance![]()
i'll preface this by saying we've already offered and if he wants to be a jacket i'm all for it! what a coup it'd be to get a kid who's considered not just the best at his position, but the best in the nation. but, i seriously doubt we're gonna spin our wheels with robert "wining and dining" him next year. sure, we have to give him attention cause he's in the neighborhood. he's in the mutts backyard! we all know the magic saban can work from the depths of hell--errr, tuscaloosa.
if there's ever been a "dream catch" from a star standpoint for our D, he's it. but, i'm not into dreaming. i'm into reality. call me crazy, negative, or whatever, but it'll take more than a miracle to land him . . .
Hehe, my mind immediately thought the worst as well.

We'd be much better off if he eliminated us early instead of dragging us all along until NSD only to do what he knows he's gonna do all along - go to Bama. We need to pursue blue chip talent, don't get me wrong, but we need to choose our battles wisely. Wild goose chasing is bad for the team and the fanbase when it ultimately falls apart.
I think we really need to poach guys who are getting screwed over by the factories like Justin Thomas. Turn it back on 'em. Unfortunately, most of 'em don't realize they're beeing screwed over till it's too late.
yep!
