• It's Only a Game Dawg

Its only a game dawg. Boy did those words ever sting when Reggie Ball uttered them after another bitter loss to UGA. But in retrospect Reggie was right. It is only a game. A game, we as fans, are truly passionate about, maybe more so in the South than any region of the country.

We as fans can get all caught up in who should be carrying the load from the B back position, our shortcomings on defense, etc., etc., but isnt the most important thing that we should want from the kids that come to Tech, are that they become great leaders, great citizens?

When I read stories about Calvin Johnson working on a project in Africa helping underprivileged people, Isaiah Johnson helping feed the homeless, or Vad Lee and his teammates visiting sick children raising their spirits, that is what really makes me proud.

Hopefully I have matured as a fan to overlook some of their errors on the field and keep my emotions in check, next time I am watching these young men play a game. A game I love.

Football is a job, just like being an engineer or a CAD operator is a job. In the workplace, employers want their employees to be great citizens, but they also want them to be highly productive. When they aren't, there's ramifications.

Fans aren't employers, but college football is a huge business and that business is to win football games and entertain the fans. I'm not saying that is right, sting, but that is reality...

I think you have a very idealistic viewpoint and there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, I like it..

The coach I idolized most in my youth was Vince Lombardi and I believe one of his most famous quotes he made while once addressing his team was "winning isn't everything, it's the only thing". So I know where you are coming from. Believe me there is no one that sulks anymore than yours truly after a Tech defeat. Thanks for the chance to share perspectives.

Mike Valenti and I would respectfully disagree.

Wasn't he also the guy who said, "If you aren't fired with enthusiasm, you'll be fired with enthusiasm"?
