• Coveted Nose Tackle Darius Commissiong Commits to Georgia Tech

Darius Commissiong is a 6’2” 305 pound defensive lineman who is Georgia Tech’s #4 commit in the 2013 recruiting class and the first defensive commit.

The big lineman from District Heights, Maryland, has been offered a scholarship by over twenty college football programs. Those programs include Boston College, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia, Syracuse and Purdue. In addition, Commissiong has been receiving interest from many elite programs across the nation.

Commissiong is a 3-star rated player who fits well in the Jackets 3-4 nose tackle position, an area that the Jackets had circled heading into the 2013 recruiting season.

Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Al Groh was instrumental in recruiting Commissiong. Groh has had success recruiting Maryland as he also brought in star Tech defensive back Louis Young from that state.

      Thanks Jim!

Offers by 20 colleges. Why did he pick GT? It'll be interesting to hear his reasons.

seems like it was just yesterday folks were peeing their pants that no one wanted to commit. now, we've got a monster OL who's arguably the best in the state, a mean-ass NT who looks to be a good one, an extremely capable RB in custis who's gonna compete for BB outta the gates, IMO, and a big AB who's a legit RB and not just an "athlete" we plug into the position. looking good!

With Andrews bowing out at qb, it looks like we really need one in this class.

oh this is nice get - he's a lean 300 lbs - what really jumped out to me was his long arms! it started a little slow, but it looks like we're landing some quality kids at positions of need

something's telling me we pull a good one in this class, cheese. maybe that's one more reason CPJ feels safe moving andrews? could be he knows something.

He must be lousy, the teams in the highlight film must be lightweights, everybody knows CAG and CPJ cannot recruit. We need new unis.

Al Groh has left a lot to be desired on the field, but in terms of recruiting, he's been pretty darn good with the guys he's brought in since he's been here. Not only the guys that have signed with us, but also opening a whole new recruiting rich region for GT. Hopefully all the pieces will start coming together on the field.

He is a good recruiter (Attaucho proved that). I think he's a good coach and the problem is our DL left a lot to be desired on the field. I absolutely agree that the pieces are falling into place.

      You're right. We are recruiting way too quick. We have 8+ months left and only about 8 or so spots left. {sarcasm}

The DL is the biggest gaping need I think we have. We probably won't see Darius on the field for 16 months, but we are building depth.

The other weak part of our team is ST. ST should improve with a coach and all the HS QBs who are great athletes and will now be more focused.

Ha...don't be surprised to see more commits start rolling in since we have limited spots this season. Guys who might have waited to bask in the recruiting attention knowing all along that GT was their school may be more inclined to commit now. I think CPJ sent a big message with Donovan Wilson that there may be more heralded players out there, but GT is going to take the kids that want to come here first. If kids are more concerned about how many offers they can pile up, and if their coaches want to see the "big boys" shower attention on a recruit, they may be SOL when another kid takes their spot.

GT has offered a new batch of recruits lately from what's been reported by the recruiting guys on Twitter, so the next few months will be interesting.

I don't want to get my hopes up too much, and don't want to drink the Kool-Aid, yet, but the future is beginning to look very bright here at GT.

Haven't seen them on the field yet, but on paper some of these guys look like real studs, and are players who WANT to be here at GT. Quality depth, and team speed like I have never seen here before, with players who want to play for GT, with coaches who can coach them...

At least in bodies and potential, we are beginning to develop quality depth and team speed like I haven't seen around here in years, if ever.

The "future" may be sooner than some of us have been thinking.

he did say something about being the "king of ATL", or something to that effect to the AJC, awhile back when discussing staying home to play for the jackets. his highlight reel is impressive.

This is correct. He's been pretty open that he likes us, but he's not expected to make a decision for quite some time. He would be a really good get for us to simply give us an 'in' at Tucker HS. He's the leader of that team and landing him could go a long way to influencing his teammates. Tucker HS has long been a SEC hotbed and I would LOVE to see us grab some kids from there.

I think he was 270 at the time of the filming. That tends to make you look less flabby.

YES. The one thing that stood out to me from his film is his ability to use his hands. He was shucking blocks like nothing. He looks to be deceptively quick and he knows where his weight is. Does he remind anybody else of Vance Walker, or am I crazy? (or both)

My thoughts exactly. Or he'll take a couple more official visits.
