A very proud GT recruiting coordinator Andy McCollum stood before Georgia Tech football fans at The Edge Center this morning and announced that Francis Kallon had sent in his National Letter of Intent.Kallon is the Central Gwinnett High School defensive end that had never played football prior to the 2011 season yet became a 4-star player.
When McCollum met Kallon in the school cafeteria last spring he was 6-6 and weighed in the 235-240 pound range. This morning the Georgia Tech fans in The Edge Center gasped in surprise and delight as McCollum related that Francis Kallon is now in the 275-280 pound range.
Surprises have not necessarily been a good thing for Georgia Tech football fans in recent memory so news on Kallon's weight certainly will cheer many a Yellow Jacket fan as they ponder his unlimited future.
McCollum reflected back on when he first met Kallon in the Central Gwinnett High School cafeteria.
“He came over and I said to him, “If you play football I think you will have a lot of opportunities,” McCollum said.
McCollum knew what he was talking about as Kallon went on to garner offers from major football programs all across the country. Even after Kallon committed to Georgia Tech it did not stop recruiters from descending on the boy wonder with the British accent and the world of potential as they pitched their schools.
“He went through a lot and Georgia Tech got bashed a lot in this process on this kid,” McCollum related. “He comes from a great momma and a great daddy and academics is very important to him.”
McCollum shared more, “But he hung in there and went through a bunch. I’d love to tell you all he went through during the process but to have his in (LOI) he will be a great addition.”
