Sorry Jim, but I have to call you out. Virginia Tech with young players? You must be talking about the defense (and half of them were upper classmen) because VT will lose four senior offensive linemen, their junior running back to the draft, their senior TE, and three senior wide receivers and they can replace them all with rising seniors. This is the complete opposite of being young and makes VT's inability to beat Clemson twice and their choke in bowl game all the more painful. They had all the pieces there for a championship season except starting a new quarterback who matured under fire early in the season.

BP, when we're recording the radio show sometimes we don't have time to elaborate or you forget to elaborate.

You're right about VT losing some key players.

What I was mainly thinking about was sophomore QB Logan Thomas who set the all-time VT record in his first year for total yards in a season and threw for the second most yards in a season since 1972.

Could you believe some of those throws he made in the GT game? Ten yard QB sneaks? The guy was tossing aside our defensive linemen and linebackers like they were rag dolls. IMO he will be as dominant an ACC player next year as we've seen in a long time.

You know what, though.. doesn't matter if Beamer has young players or old players. Few ago I was arguing with Heather that VT wouldn't be any good 'cause they had almost all new starters on the OL and a bunch of new guys on defense but they had a huge year, anyways. The guy can flat out coach and they will once again be the team to beat in the Coastal Division.

      Good interview.

Bottom line is what Jerimiah said - we don't close. Too nice. We don't have thugs, but it would be nice to make the plays and have some cojones the entire game on defense and special teams. But I don't blame the kids.

We have a good O, sub mediocre D and atrocious game killling parts of the special teams. That hasn't changed in four years really. Maybe next year it will. But you ain't going to fool me three years in a row. CPJ has proven he hasn't put together an entire program and win consistently against good teams in the D1 level -- the last two years our ranking at year's end is below our recruiting ranking.

VT has been recruiting about as well as we have Star wise. They should be favored next year to win Coastal based on how much better the get through every season. Compared to our team which got worse. One frigging win for GT out of 8 for the last two games of the year. Just another sign of the coaching not coming through and the O can be contained in crunch time.

Have to agree with everything you said, Nuke. Hopefully things will change next season in the key areas you mention.

      This is not true.

VT has a 4 yr composite recruiting rank of 28 while GT's is 46. That's a big difference. Imagine if CPJ had that kind of talent to work with on the field. Another thing, I don't get all the VT love. GT has gone toe to toe with them all 4 years CPJ has been here. All four years have gone down to the wire. There's very little difference between the two teams other than the ability to close the close games.

I think it's as simple as leadership from the qb. Even though Thomas was young, he has "it." Even though Tevin is older, he doesn't.

My nickle is on Vad having "it".

      DCS,

I guess we agree on everything but "VT has been recruiting about as well as we have Star wise." Here's what I have for Scout recruiting data; over the last four years the average GT recruit have averaged 2.90 stars and VT recruits have averaged 2.88 stars. GT has had recruiting classes which averaged 39th best and VT has had classes which averaged 34th best. The reason for this difference is that GT has recruited 81 players in the four year period and VT has recruited 93.

The truth is an elusive thing

PS I have all this in an Excel spreadsheet that I'll update after this year's signing day. I don't know how to post Excel, but can send if anyone PMs me.
