• Will NFL Money Call GT's Omoregie Uzzi?

In mid December Georgia Tech wide receiver Stephen Hill and guard Omoregie Uzzi submitted their paperwork to be evaluated by the NFL draft advisory board.

The board is composed of NFL scouts and officials and is designed to give college players with eligibility remaining a draft evaluation.

Hill has already declared for the NFL draft. What will Uzzi do?

Uzzi is a two time first team All-ACC selection and at 6-3, 300 pounds, has the size and ability to be successful at the next level.

If Uzzi receives a second or third round evaluation from the advisory committee he will most likely enter the upcoming NFL draft. He has already graduated from Tech and as a redshirt junior this season has been on campus four years.

NFLDraftScout.com rates Uzzi as the fifth best offensive guard out of 169 players who are either eligible for the draft or could be eligible. That would appear to place Uzzi in third/fourth round territory.

If Georgia Tech football fans would like a good sign to give them hope, Uzzi still maintains an open Facebook page. Often when players are leaving early they will pull their Facebook page or limit public access. But Uzzi’s Facebook page is still open for business.

Uzzi has until Sunday, January 15 to decide if he wants another year on The Flats or start cashing NFL paychecks.

Any guesses on what Uzzi will do? If he does turn pro do you think the GT fan base will go nuts on him like they did with Hill?

i hope he doesn't go for our sake. we're still trying to get this OL solidified for the future and that's never easy if you're loosing your best lineman after just a few years. but, for his own sake if his eval comes back very favorable i wouldn't fault him for choosing to go pro.

Be huge if he stays.. in reality he is our best player. Based on his wanting 2nd or 3rd round and where he rates right now it could be 50/50.

If Hill got a good evaluation as bad as he is, chances are that Uzzi would too.

I for one did not nut up when SH announced his intentions, but I still believe he is making a huge mistake, because I believe he got some bad advice from someone. I hope he proves me wrong. IMHO something has got to be done to prevent any SA's from leaving a program after their Sophmore year and that includes all sports. Think about the amount of money that is invested in this kids from start to finish. Hell, if two to three years are all they are going to play for a school, let them sign out of high school and put the financial burden on the pro teams, just an old fart's opinion.

      TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!!!

      Not a bad thought.

Yes, we need him to stay. It would be more significant in the first half of next season having a true veteran, talented guard to anchor the line. It would certainly help out a first year QB, if that happens to be the case.

But, I will say that the interior of our OL is starting to look pretty strong. Finch is good. Shaq Mason can be better than Uzzi before he's through. Braun also has the ability to be at that level. Erinn Joe can be solid. We're also bringing in some nice OL. I like the future look of this position.

I hope Uzzi stays so that we can keep good continuity going into next year, he can mentor the younger guys, and we can continue to redshirt to build for the future.

Even though we are developing depth along the O-line, I think losing Uzzi would hurt us much more than Hill. We have been fighting for the entire PJ era to get to the point where we can match our opponents' physicality along the LOS. Once we do that, the value of optioning out a defender will be magnified. Right now, the option keeps us competitive. Having a veteran OL with at least a couple dominant players and the rest good, would really open things up for us. Even though Shaq will grow and be better next year and several new 'shirts will be added to the mix, we need seniors who are NFL caliber leading the way. Uzzi has been in the system for his entire career. Execution of our offense is far more complex for the O-Line than any zone blocking scheme. Experience matters for a lot more than just weight training another year. Stay Uzzi, STAY!

Oh yeah, Helluva says it's just diving at knees.

Seriously though, he did an interview a couple weeks ago with Rod McKenzie and said he was coming back.

Please stay. But if you are reliably projected in the top couple rounds, it's hard to say no. Engineering will always be there, has been for thousands of years.

As I said in the Hill threads, losing Hill hurt for the loss of blocking. And losing Uzzi would hurt more since our big loses since CPJ has been here have been when the OL got blown up.
