• GT's Jemea Thomas Earns ACC Defensive Back of the Week

Jemea Thomas celebrated his first career start by intercepting Clemson QB Tahj Boyd twice in leading the Jackets to a 31-17 upset victory over the previously unbeaten and #5 ranked Clemson Tigers.

Thomas recorded five tackles, a tackle for loss, broke up two passes and forced a fumble. He became the first GT player to pick off two passes in a game in more than a year.

Both Thomas’ interceptions came during the fourth quarter, one a crucial pick in the Jackets’ end zone that foiled Clemson’s bid to close the 14-point deficit.

Former Georgia Tech All-ACC center Sean Bedford said, “In my opinion Jemea’s performance was the best defensive performance by a Georgia Tech defensive player since Michael Johnson in 2005 against Maryland.”

has anyone said we need to see him on the field more? oh yeah, our head coach a number of times. well, it finally happened and how could we expect anything less than the effort he gave? everyone's begged to see him more. we got our wish and he delivered. he's a special teams stud, a ball hound on D, an obvious student of the game through film study, and loves to lay the wood. what a secondary we're building!

One of the few negative things about CAG is he falls in love with "prototypical size" in his defenders. When CAG arrived at GT, Julian Burnett was on the 3rd team defense. JB made so many plays that CAG couldn't ignore him. It's the same with Jemea. The kid is 5'10 at most, and doesn't look the part for a CAG 3-4 DB/Safety. But put him on the field, and he makes plays wherever you put him. Heck, as great as he played on defense Saturday, he actually played equally as well on special teams.

      Congrats to, Jemea!

When I spoke with GT defensive backfield coach Charles Kelly at the end of spring he felt that Jemea was a very good playmaker but at times got out of position. That is what they have been working on with him. Keeping his aggressiveness but improving his play and positional awareness.

The results Saturday night indicate lessons learned.
